Palazzo del Cinema di Locarno in Locarno, Switzerland by AZPA

Wednesday, May 8th, 2013

Article source: AZPA

Our proposal for the future Palazzo del Cinema di Locarno aims to build a physical structure that will constitute the urban identity of the Locarno Film Festival. The project aims to bring together the infrastructural needs of the Locarno Film Festival, the pre-existent physical structure of the Palazzo Scolastico and the Piazza Remo Rossi to synthesise a structure which will capture the presence of the Film Festival within the city of Locarno. The Locarno Film Festival does not have yet a recognizable home within the city, and the complex of the Palazzo Scolastico and the Piazza Remo Rossi represents a great opportunity to encrust the Film Festival within an urban structure which has already deep affective relations to the Locarno citizens, and a significant presence in today’s cityscape. We hope that our project will be able to intensify both the presence of the Film Festival and the City of Locarno.

Apartment Building in Chailly, Switzerland by Personeni Raffaele Schärer Architectes

Thursday, April 4th, 2013

Article source: Personeni Raffaele Schärer Architectes

This building participates to the densification of the northern neighborhoods of Lausanne. Its tectonic derives from the site’s shape and a strict compliance with the building code. It addresses the various conditions around it: the street facing elevation underlines the gentle curve of Temple Avenue while the opposite one follows the waving course of the river Vuachere lined by trees. It is simply organized on three levels. Each apartment has a unique open layout extending out with its own private exterior space (garden, balcony and terrace).

School House and kindergarten in Grono, Switzerland by Raphael Zuber Architekt

Friday, February 8th, 2013

Article source: Raphael Zuber Architekt

The building stands in the middle of a garden on a public square. The square is a uniformly sloping paved surface, planted with walnut trees and is the playground for the school. The garden is a circular crater, overgrown with a field of flowers, and is the outside play area for the kindergarten. The geometry of the garden and the level of the building are determined by a quadrate horizontal surface on which the building stands and by the two approaches.

Tunnels are “wounds” inflicted on geology to facilitate human movements. Their history is ancient, glorious and gory, but today techniques have been refined to the point of making the excavation similar to endoscopic surgery.
