Tenhachi House in Tokyo, Japan by .8 TENHACHI ARCHITECT & INTERIOR DESIGN

Sunday, June 5th, 2016

Article source: .8 TENHACHI ARCHITECT & INTERIOR DESIGN

This is a renovation for our own apartment in Kanagawa.

.8 (TENHACHI) Architect & Interior design reconfigured the layout of the 67-square-meter property, creating one big open space with two open box spaces. The concrete ceiling and beams are left exposed throughout, contrasting with the white walls and furniture doors that have been added. None of the walls reach the ceiling, which allows us to see that the new infill pieces are different from the structure of the original concrete.

Interior Renovation in Japan by frontofficetokyo

Tuesday, May 31st, 2016

Article source: frontofficetokyo

First built in the 1970’s the apartment was cramped by contemporary standards, even for Tokyo, with low ceilings and short and narrow rooms. After stripping the space down to a single room, the design takes a hint from the overlapping spaces in the city and is composed from three simple shapes. A grey wood box houses the laundry, a concrete box contains the bath and sink, while an S shaped partition forms a closet and space for the fridge. The updated space is simple but comfortable and connects to the city perfectly.

Nakagawa ShotenOmotesnado Shop & Office in Tokyo, Japan by Jo Nagasaka / Schemata Architects

Tuesday, March 15th, 2016

Article source: Jo Nagasaka / Schemata Architects

At first I was pleasantly surprised to discover this land filled with such lush greenery in Aoyama, in the middle of Tokyo. I wanted to provide the same kind of pleasant surprise to customers of this shop, both on the first and second floors.  The building stood there, simple and open towards the existing greenery, and seemed to harmonize with the vitality of the land. Respecting such surrounding environment, we tried to minimize the infill construction and composed the interior with furniture instead.

Sojitz REIT Advisors K.K. is an asset management company for NIPPON REIT Investment Corporation (NRT), a listed Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The new address for its relocation is a 36 year old building. The interiors, built to standard office specifications, had been designed in a uniform manner, and gave off an oppressive feel.

Article source: Fumihiko Sano

This work was made for the exhibition, “Measuring: This much, That much, How much?” held at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT from February 20th to May 30th, 2015.

I designed this in collaboration with MUJI, using their first furniture product, the steel shelving unit.

First, I began the project by discussing the importance of this steel shelving unit with the designers at MUJI to study what this product meant for them.
