Article source: Andreas Fuhrimann Gabrielle Hächler Architekten

In 2015 the clients decided to build an underground extension and undertake a rearrangement of the house, whereby the building was divided into two independent apartments. The clients’ main apartment covered the ground and the first floor, orientated both towards the garden encompassed by the L-shaped building and the west-facing outdoor area adjoining the woods and supplemented with raised plant beds.

Kunsthaus Zürich in Switzerland by David Chipperfield Architects

Sunday, December 9th, 2018

Article source: David Chipperfield Architects

The Kunsthaus Zürich, designed by the Swiss architect Karl Moser, was built between 1904 and 1910 and is situated on Heimplatz, a square in Zurich’s city centre. The existing museum is to be expanded with a new building on the opposite side of the square, designed by David Chipperfield Architects Berlin. The new extension will display a collection of classic modernism, the Bührle Collection, temporary exhibitions and a contemporary art collection starting from the 1960s. Together with the Schauspielhaus (theatre) on the eastern side of the square, the museum buildings will form a ‘gateway to the arts’, an urban entry to the education mile leading to the university buildings to the north.

The re-invention of the call centre in Zurich, Switzerland by Evolution Design

Wednesday, October 25th, 2017

Article source: Evolution Design

When you think of a call centre you probably picture a line of people seated in row upon row of desks in a featureless back room. But call centres are changing. In many companies, they are now the first point of contact with customers and are increasingly important in growing new business and ensuring customer satisfaction. High tech and fast paced, with multiple contact points from email and messaging systems to video and voice calls, they also require motivated and well-trained staff. As companies recognise their growing importance, the boiler room approach is disappearing and call centres are beginning to morph into a corporate centrepiece.

Evolution Design re-designs a school entrance hall into an inspiring collaboration space in Zürich, Switzerland

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017

Article source: Evolution Design

The Inter-Community School Zurich is a private international day school, which offers a comprehensive educational programme in English for children from ages of 3 to 18.

The new design forms a fresh and individual space that reflects ICS’s culture and values, and gives their staff and students a strong sense of belonging.

During the planning stage, the students along with the staff were greatly involved in the decision-making process by expressing their needs and favoured use of the space as well as their preferences in furniture, material and colour choices.

Europaallee ‘Site D’ in Zürich, Switzerland by WIEL ARETS ARCHITECTS

Sunday, August 27th, 2017

Article source: WIEL ARETS ARCHITECTS

This new building is an integral component of ‘Europaallee’, a currently emerging district adjacent to Zürich’s central train station. A plinth of retail programming anchors the project to its site, while its upper volumes consist of flexible office spaces that, due to their shallow depth and efficient façade grid, can be occupied by several individual companies or a larger singular tenant. These dual programs posed the challenge of creating two unique lighting and spatial requirements within this prominently sited building. The main entry has been positioned along the parallel ‘Europaaallee’, and opens onto the ground floor’s main retail and circulation spaces. From the ground floor, a central staircase complemented by two ramping escalators traverses and connects these areas. Foreseeing a possible conversion into future residential units, the building’s flexible structure was designed to allow for such a repurpose of its program. The resulting silhouette, and the alignment of its highest points with the trackside façades of the two adjacent plots, will ensure a powerful and unified building amid the area’s planned structures, further defining the distinguished context of the surrounding ‘Europaallee’.
