Invest in Training with an ARCHICAD Consultant

September 10th, 2015 by Mary Moscarello

GRAPHISOFT has long advocated for user training and puts an increasing amount of focus on that aspect of servicing our customers. Basic tutorials and resource links are embedded in the software and users know they can contact tech support nearly around the clock for advice.

ARCHICAD Help CenterIn addition to the online help center, YouTube channel, social media and social networking avenues for ARCHICAD users to get advice and training, GRAPHISOFT employs several BIM consultants who have valuable insight into what issues we are seeing from a user standpoint with the software. GRAPHISOFT also creates opportunities for our customers to benefit from in-person, on-on-one classes as well as ARCHICAD boot camp for both new and experienced users.

BIM consultants have the distinction of being able to interact with the same offices on a regular basis. The consultants will often be called upon to develop strategies in which ARCHICAD can assist on specific projects. Through that relationship and with their background as licensed architects, GRAPHISOFT BIM consultants provide a level of assistance that is unmatched in the industry.

Hlevel Architects Finds Efficiency After Switching to ARCHICAD

Transitioning from AutoCAD to ARCHICAD

Things changed in January of 2015 for the team at Hlevel Architects. The team made the transition from AutoCAD to ARCHICAD. The growing firm, which specializes in both residential and commercial projects recently completed several projects with ARCHICAD.

Although still new to the software, relatively speaking, the team at Hlevel has come to know that that transition was worth the effort. Firm principle, Michaela Reiterer Henning explains, “After having used ARCHICAD for residential, interior commercial and renovation projects, we now truly understand the potential of the software. We are happy that we have moved toward using such a powerful design tool that helps us collaborate with clients, consultants and contractors.”

ARCHICAD Hlevel BIMOne such project – a 4,500 square foot, two story residential (single family) home provided a chance for the team at Hlevel to experience firsthand how ARCHICAD can assist in designing and creating the model. In a similar way, the benefits of ARCHICAD became apparent to the team as they worked on a multi-family dwelling – which amounted to a tenant improvement project and required heavy interior work.

“On the tenant improvement project, we were able to use ARCHICAD to create the images and sections all the way through to the cabinetry. We found it beneficial to save the interiors in the model and make shop drawings for those details. We saved loads of time because of all the detailing we created. Equally beneficial was the visualization in ARCHICAD as we created the dormers in the single family home. In AutoCAD, it would have been a very complicated process, because the ceiling heights change.”

Powerhouse Brazil Firm Chooses ARCHICAD Over Revit

July 16th, 2015 by Mary Moscarello

In a recent press release GRAPHISOFT announced signing with Fernandes Arquitetos Associados (FAA).

FAA

The well-known Brazilian firm with an impressive portfolio, including two 2014 World Cup arenas had been on a competitor’s BIM platform, namely Revit, since 2007. The firm researched alternatives to that platform in keeping with its commitment to consistently streamlining their design process while adding value to their customers. The firm evaluated ARCHICAD and determined it to be a superior software. In addition, Daniel Hopf Fernandes, Founder of FAA pointed out – switching to ARCHICAD freed the firm from the new commercial policy introduced by Autodesk.

“Our main motivation for changing software was Autodesk’s new commercial policy, which is counter-productive to the Brazilian economy,” Fernandes said. After testing and using ARCHICAD, the firm has concluded that it is a superior software. “ARCHICAD integrates with Rhino — and it is more user-friendly and intuitive. ARCHICAD also offers us greater modeling freedom and allows us to model and document in one single platform,” he added.

Sylla International – Success Since the Switch to ARCHICAD

Making the Switch to ARCHICAD

More than a year ago here on the blog, we profiled Cheikh Sylla of Tampa, FL-based Sylla International and his decision to adopt ARCHICAD over another BIM software he had been using for quite some time. Since then he has been busy, putting his skills and ARCHICAD to the test. At the start of 2015 Sylla evaluated his decision candidly, honestly sharing his experience for his readers and other architects considering a similar change.

Was it Worth it?

Rather than rehash his thorough overview of what the impact of the change has been, I thought it wise to discuss how he’s using the software on an actual project. Sylla is in the design phase of creating a nearly six thousand square foot home that features a pool in a flood zone of Miami, Florida. Sylla is using ARCHICAD 18 to create the design through to construction documents that and at press time was nearing the point of submitting the plans to the city for review.

Thank You Atlanta! AIA 2015 Recap

May 22nd, 2015 by Mary Moscarello
We have caught our breath after a successful show in Atlanta during the AIA 2015 National Convention. There were so many highlights, we hardly know where to begin!

It makes the most sense to start where all the action happened – our booth. This year, our booth was a busy hub where we demonstrated the performance enhancements in ARCHICAD 19, the latest version of our premium BIM software. Once again, our convention booth was designed and modeled in ARCHICAD, providing an open and welcoming space to allow for comfortable interactions throughout the show. Judging by the crowds that gathered we consider our mission accomplished. Visitors were able to relax and see first-hand how we’ve improved the user interface of ARCHICAD, speed up performance and made the work environment so streamlined and efficient.

The community center just opened to the public last fall, providing much-needed space for health services, physical activity and education. The Kroc Center is more than a building. The building represents a coordinated effort to reclaim space and provide much needed services to the community.

The $90 million project, situated on a 24-acre former municipal landfill creates positive and sustainable social, economic, and cultural benefits to the communityArchiCAD Kitchen & Associates and serve as an anchor for neighborhood revitalization. Kitchen & Associates had to rely on interdisciplinary collaboration while designing in ARCHICAD to acquire funding and maintain project momentum through site remediation, design, and construction.

A winner of the NJ Smart Growth Award, the Kroc Center design has satisfied a list of ten objectives to support smart growth in the community. Tour Eco-Friendly Home Designed in ARCHICAD by US Green Building Council Award Winner

May 8th, 2015 by Mary Moscarello

This week, you have a special opportunity to tour an eco-friendly, sustainable, healthy and efficient home – designed in ARCHICAD by the creator of Northern Illinois’ first certified passive house; Tom Bassett-Dilley Architect, Ltd.

On May 9th, Tom Bassett-Dilley of TBDA, Brandon Weiss of Evolutionary Home Builders, Jason LaFleur of Eco-Achievers, and Matt Fordham of ENVIRONMENTS Studio will lead a tour of their Oak Park home. You will be able to learn about smart, healthy and efficient living during this free event.TBDA tour image George Mailer UPDATED.small

As told to the Chicago Tribune in a recent article, Bassett-Dilley says, “this is a “right-sized” new home, designed in the Passive House paradigm, but being certified under the LEED program. While its space planning and technology are entirely 21st-century, its form echoes the scale and detailing of its bungalow and foursquare neighbors. Indoor-outdoor experience is optimized with a front screened porch, complete with a wood-burning fireplace.”

“We really care about not poisoning our clients,” Bassett-Dilley said. “To me, this passive house way of building is about both health and efficiency. Not just do less harm, but actually do good for people.”

The floor plan is simple “but every function is just perfectly tailored to what they needed,” Bassett-Dilley said. “It’s performance informing design and design making an expression out of the performance,” he said.

TBDA has been chronicling the creation of this home in his “From the Field” updates – now see it all come together. Register here.
