Fota Island sits tranquilly in Cork harbour, about 10 kilometres from Cork City. Golf may have been played on the pleasant landscape setting since the late 19th century. In 2004, building developers Fleming Construction Group purchased Fota Island Golf club and the surrounding lands, and laid plans to construct a substantial hotel and residential complex.
