Every year, the University of Michigan’s Sociology Department processes nearly a million pieces of paper during the selection and approval process for doctorate students. Administrators endure extensive paperwork with the copying and manual distribution of every applicant’s documents to each person on the 10-member selection board. To streamline the process, the University began searching for a document management system that could electronically capture, control and distribute each applicant’s documents. The system had to be easy to deploy and capable of providing Web-based document access.
