Dublin. July 21, 2010. A new Irish start up company, SmartBuilder Software was formed earlier this year to develop mobile software for use on construction sites both internationally and in Ireland. The company has today launched an innovative new iPhone application which helps builders save money.
What could be more important for builders now than ways to save money ? On the construction site, just like at home, someone has to take out the rubbish. The problem for many main contractors is that sub-contractors are often slow about doing this or even leave without doing it. That means the main contractor then has to organise other people to do it and pay for that himself even though the sub-contractor is obliged to do it. Now SmartBuilder Software’s new app “Site Clean Up” solves this problem.
This innovative new app gives the contractor the ability to record and action sub-contractors to clean up by a set date or face penalties. Sending them these warning notices gets them moving quickly to rectify the problem and so prevents the contractor from having to pay for the clean up himself. It also has a handy report function for benchmarking sub-contractor performance.
“Site Clean Up” was developed after market research showed a huge demand for a practical solution to address this issue. This app is designed to be used by builders of all sizes from those building a school extension in a small town to those working on the London Olympics. It costs $19.99 ( around €15.50).
A video of the app working on a construction site can be seen here on the app website http://www.smartbuilder1.com/sitecleanup or here:
Commenting on the launch, Peter Daly, Managing Director and co-founder of SmartBuilder Software commented “ In today’s environment no contractor can afford these sorts of wastages and inefficiencies. Site Clean Up was developed as our response to a need builders were telling us about and it will generate real savings from the first time it is used”.
Apple’s total iPhone sales could reach 100M by next year according to a Morgan Stanley analyst. While there are over 170,000 applications written for iPhones, few address the needs of professionals in the construction sector. SmartBuilder Software also plans to bring in Android and other smartphone versions of the app later in the year.
SmartBuilder Software is also developing a powerful internet based system for both small and large construction companies. There is patchy use of IT in the construction industry. While there are often a number of software systems in contractor’s head quarters, some of which extend to the site office, there is a big gap in information technology at the actual “ point of delivery” of building i.e. out on the site. There is low market penetration as yet for in-field systems and this is a big opportunity internationally. SmartBuilder Software is developing an innovative cloud based solution that will address this unmet need and deliver real productivity in a sector that badly needs to become profitable again and raise its productivity.
