DALLAS — (BUSINESS WIRE) — December 2, 2010 — Beck is among the latest to join a growing list, over 130 strong and counting, to sign the American Institute of Architects’ 2030 Commitment. The Commitment has established a time-based list of goals a firm must meet toward achieving carbon neutral status.

Within two months firms must have a sustainability team in place; within six months a minimum of four action items that apply to firm operations must be implemented; within one year an action plan that demonstrates success on the way to the carbon neutral goal must be developed. Beyond the one year mark, firms must continue to report progress toward the 2030 carbon neutral goal. Additionally, metrics must be reported relating to the energy efficiency of projects undertaken by the firm.
“Those who have accepted the challenge and made the commitment are embracing the idea of not only designing sustainable buildings, but of modeling the behaviors of a truly sustainability oriented business. It’s an important step in the effort to be good stewards of our environment and is a challenge whole-heartedly accepted by Beck,” says Beck’s Betsy del Monte, AIA, LEED® AP, the firm’s Director of Sustainability.
