Rendering for Realism
by Susan Smith
Artlantis has come up with a new rendering program called Artlantis R. The product has been out since November 2005, and is featured at the Imagina conference taking place in Monaco this month.
Artlantis R, is known (at least to those who have created it) as the “one click Radiosity” software that offers architects and designers a complete, efficient and high quality tool to make excellent photorealistic, high quality renderings quickly. Designed for architects and designers, it has a very user friendly interface, high computing speed, and intuitive objects manager, FastRadiosity engine and exchange technology.
It complements existing major CAD programs, and in fact, some users have said that it is a perfect complement to @Last Software's SketchUp program. Others have said that they use it in conjunction with PhotoShop, Piranesi and VectorWorks via the plug-ins. Using lighting effects, realistic materials and 3D objects, you can add realism to any project or presentation.
According to Jorge Barrerro, illustrator and architect, JBDigital Studio, “The ability to add and manipulate objects in Artlantis R is extremely useful when laying out a composition. I no longer have to go back to the modeling application for last minutes changes. The vast available library of shaders and objects provide many options for my illustrations, and the simple drag and drop operation is terrific.”
Various shaders come with the product on CD-ROM, including
- Construction Materials CD-ROM which provides 250 high resolution, seamless tileable shaders which can be applied to your 3D-models. These shaders, which include the bump maps for the depth of the material, can easily be used for architectural renderings.
These shaders are created from Dosch Design Textures
The following thematics are included: roof, facades, tiles, exposed concrete, plaster, wallpaper structures, floors, soldier courses for masonry, metal structures
- Floor Pro contains 140 detailed floor shaders for professional visualization of large floor areas. Provided are realistic depictions of wood, parquet, laminate, marble- and granite floors, as well as natural stone, cobblestone, weathered and aged floor materials, and brick - the latter can also be used vertically for large brick-wall areas. These shaders are created from Dosch Design Textures.
- Ground Pro CD-ROM provides a variety (126 detailed depictions, 30 billboards and 35 textures) of ground styles & materials like street surface, grass, dirt and industrial surfaces which can be applied to 3D-models. These high resolution textures can be used for architectural and landscaping renderings. These shaders are created from Dosch Design Textures
- Wood Pro CD-ROM provides a variety of wood styles (grains, colors, patterns) which can be applied to any 3D-model. These 200 textures can be used for a rustic oak door, a contemporary style teak-table, an elegant mahogany picture frame, various patterned inlay floors ... or close-ups of other wooden objects. These shaders are created from Dosch Design Textures.
3D object libraries include CD-ROMs for each of the following: Dosch Design Furniture, Dosch Design Utility Vehicles, Exterior 3D plants1 and 2, Business 3D models, and Casual 3D models 1-4.
Artlantis R is a part of a whole family of Artlantis products, which include Artlantis Classic, for those who concern themselves with more spatial arrangements like landscape design, exhibit display, etc. Artlantis Studio will be released in June - which will encompass the power, speed and functionality of Artlantis R but with the added feature of animation, VR panoramas, and QuickTime VR object.
Artlantis R is priced at $595.
