Informative Graphics to Release Free AutoCAD 2004 Viewer

MYRIAD and Brava!(R) Upgrades Feature Support for AutoCAD 2004, Free DWG Viewer Scheduled for Mid-January

PHOENIX—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Dec. 16, 2003— Informative Graphics Corp. (IGC), a leader in Web-document and collaboration technology, announced today that it plans to update its free DWG Viewer based on the new Open Design Alliance DWGdirect libraries and IGC's new Brava!/ActiveX framework.

The Open Design Alliance (formally the OpenDWG Alliance) is an organization committed to maintaining the availability of DWG and other CAD formats as open standards for all software applications that need to access valuable CAD data. The Alliance has released a new set of libraries, designed to support changes such as those in AutoCAD 2004. IGC is a founding member of the Open Design Alliance.

"Our DWGdirect libraries were designed from the ground-up to provide high-quality support for reading, writing and viewing DWG, DXF and DWF files -- no matter whether those files were created 10 years ago, or won't be created for another 10 years," said Evan Yares, president of the Open Design Alliance. "By providing a free viewer based on DWGdirect, IGC is helping to ensure that users will be able to access their AutoCAD data files -- without having to worry about licensing costs, version support or intractable limitations in fidelity."

The Brava 4.1 upgrade with support for AutoCAD 2004 and utilizing the Open Design Alliance libraries was released in November. A new version of IGC's free DWG Viewer(TM) is being developed using Brava!/ActiveX technology, and will be available for download through the Open Design Alliance and directly from in January. IGC has also recently announced the availability of Brava! Reader that supports Visual Rights(TM) published CSF files created from Net-It CAD plug-ins (for AutoCAD, Inventor and other CAD systems). Based on ActiveX, IGC's DWG Viewer serves as a stand-alone desktop application, or an ActiveX control that can be invoked from a specified application such as Internet Explorer. The free DWG Viewer will limit functionality to opening native DWG, DXF and DWF files for viewing, along with accompanying files. It will also open IGC's "content sealed format" (CSF) file format, which supports selective and persistent Visual Rights(TM) security options for file content. The DWG viewer will also open IGC legacy format files from previous versions of Brava!(R) and MYRIAD(R). Printing and markup functions are available in IGC's fee-based viewing products.

"Maintaining products that leverage open standards from groups such as Open Design Alliance gives the AutoCAD user community a choice and helps foster creativity," said Gary Heath, CEO at IGC. "We're continuing our corporate commitment to the downstream user, and we're adding security to provide even more flexibility and control," he added.
