QuantaCAD for PDMS Released

PITTSBURGH—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Feb. 2, 2006— Quantapoint, the world's most experienced and trusted provider of as-built documentation using integrated laser scanning, today announced the release of QuantaCAD(TM). When combined with the AVEVA Laser Model Interface (LMI), QuantaCAD enables Quantapoint's 3D laser models(TM) to be accessed within AVEVA PDMS. 3D laser models are unique Quantapoint technology that integrate laser scan data for an entire facility area to create dimensionally accurate, physically complete and photo-realistic 3D models composed of laser data.

According to Roel Tang, Senior Design Engineer at Viro Engineering, "By providing 3D laser models within PDMS, designers can eliminate remodeling of existing facilities, visualize proposed changes for design and constructability reviews, and clash-check the PDMS models against actual field conditions to identify interferences - all of which reduce project time and rework." Added Erik de Jonge, PDMS Application Engineer at Viro, "QuantaCAD also eliminates the time and confusion of searching for laser data by enabling users to load 3D laser models around existing PDMS models. This and the 90% smaller size of 3D laser models compared to raw laser data makes Quantapoint and QuantaCAD much easier to use and manage."

"Quantapoint is a pioneer in laser scanning, with several key technology patents and nearly 700 projects worth of experience," commented Neil McPhater, Special Projects Delivery Manager at AVEVA. "Closer integration between our products will provide many benefits during project execution using PDMS, such as decreased design and modeling time. AVEVA is pleased to be working with Quantapoint to the benefit of our mutual customers."

"While this integration adds to the significant value that laser scanning can bring to project execution for existing facilities, facility owner-operators are also recognizing the benefits of using the 'as-built' documentation as part of a broader asset lifecycle management strategy," said Eric Hoffman, CEO of Quantapoint. "Enabling CAD tools - such as PDMS - to display Quantapoint's photo-realistic 3D laser models will enable our mutual customers to extract greater value from their investment in as-built laser documentation(TM) across their enterprise."
