Latest HOOPS Stream Toolkit Increases Flexibility and Power of HSF Read/Write SDK

Oakland, CA - May 1, 2002 - Tech Soft America (TSA), the leading provider of
core graphics component technology to the engineering industry, continues to
set the standard for flexible, customizable streaming technology. The HOOPS
Stream Toolkit (HOOPS/Stream) serves as the read/write SDK for the popular
HOOPS Streaming Format (HSF), which provides the foundation for the OpenHSF

In addition to the reading & writing of standard HSF files, HOOPS/Stream
enables developers to embed application data within the file to complement
the HSF geometry. This information can be related to product structure,
bill-of-materials, assembly instructions, CAE analysis results, or any other
application-specific information. Developers may also use HOOPS/Stream as
the foundation for custom formats, as is the case with the eDrawings format
from SolidWorks and the iSF format from Informative Graphics.

HOOPS/Stream may be used as an independent HSF Import/Export module or in
conjunction with the other HOOPS components available from TSA.

New features and enhancements to HOOPS/Stream include:

  • New Primitive Support. Support is now included for new geometries including
trimmed NURBS Surfaces, cylinders, tri-fans and non-shell LOD primitives.
There is also support for clip regions and view definition attributes.

  • Additional Compression Flexibility. HOOPS/Stream is designed for use within
many types of applications, with flexibility continuing to be a major
hallmark. Developers now have an even wider array of options as they
consider trade-offs between issues such as file size, compression time, and
geometric precision. New extensions enable developers to control the level
    of vertex and normal compression.

  • File dictionary enhancements. The file dictionary has been enhanced to
store additional data that can be used by the HOOPS Net Server to implement
on-demand and view dependent streaming. By design HOOPS/Stream is a flexible
component which does not require a server-side module to be implemented in
order to take full advantage of intelligent streaming, however the
dictionary node is imbedded for use by applications which can benefit from
    view-dependent streaming.

  • Java Reader. A new 100% Java version of the HOOPS Stream Toolkit read
module has been added. This enables developers of full Java solutions to
stream in HSF files or their own custom variant formats.

Noted Yanick Fluhmann, Co-Founder of TSA “HOOPS/Stream allows developers to
quickly support the reading and/or writing of the increasingly popular HSF
format, as well as to create custom file formats for use within their own
family of applications. It offers sophisticated compression, unprecedented
flexibility and is specifically focused on the needs of engineering. With
this 7.0 release we continue to lead the market in these three key areas.”

Added Gary Heath, President & CEO, Informative Graphics, “With this 7.0
release TSA has delivered another impressive HOOPS Stream Toolkit. We
believe this latest offering will not only enhance our ModelPress and Myriad
offerings, but help continue to momentum of the OpenHSF Initiative.
