Intergraph Process, Power & Offshore Plant Design System 7.2 Helps Preserve Customer Investment in Flagship Product

DaratechPLANT 2003

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 29, 2003--The Process, Power & Offshore division of Intergraph Corporation (NASDAQ: INGR) today announced the 7.2 version of its flagship Plant Design System (PDS(TM)). Scheduled for availability later this quarter, PDS 7.2 includes global worksharing enhancements, tighter integration with FrameWorks(R) Plus, compatibility with SmartPlant(R) P&ID 3.0, additional electrical raceway and duct modeling commands, new piping isometric weld definitions, clash detection envelope subclassifications and Microsoft(R) Windows XP operating system support.

The Huntsville, Ala.-based Intergraph announced and demonstrated PDS 7.2 at DaratechPLANT 2003, the world's foremost event for process plant design and engineering IT.

Company officials also noted general plans for future versions of PDS which emphasize SmartPlant 3D migration support, integration with SmartPlant applications and third-party products including popular lasergrammetry packages, additional industry-specific functions and other improvements aimed at preserving customer investment in the software.

PDS, the division's flagship product (, is regarded worldwide as the standard software for process, power plant and offshore rig engineering design.

Adds New Global Worksharing and Structural Features

Worksharing improvements, including a new site identification attribute, make project transactions with multiple databases on worldwide networks more efficient. Unique indices and site ownership data for 3D models and drawings enable greater control over revisions made on both local and remote sites. Archive/retrieve capabilities now include filtering of models and drawings by site ID.

Closer integration with FrameWorks Plus - the structural engineering and modeling component of PDS - provides additional offshore rig engineering features as well as expanded integration with third-party products such as Design Data SDS/2. New features in FrameWorks Plus 7.2 are detailed today in a separate press release.

Integrates with SmartPlant P&ID 3.0

PDS 7.2 integrates with SmartPlant P&ID 3.0 for an intelligent P&ID alternative to the standard PDS P&ID module. Integration ensures piping and instrumentation diagram consistency with the PDS 3D model. Replacing PDS P&ID with SmartPlant P&ID helps engineering organizations improve work processes, increase the utility and value of lifecycle plant data and make the most of expanded integration capabilities with Intergraph and non-Intergraph applications.

Offers Enhanced HVAC and Raceway Modeling

PDS 7.2 offers improvements for electrical raceway and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) modeling. New raceway commands are executed from the menu or palette. HVAC commands include expanded manipulations for modeling ductwork and related elements. The raceway and HVAC commands provide additional modeling flexibility and productivity.

Other Improvements Increase Design Quality

Aimed at increasing design quality and further reducing rework, weld ownership in piping isometric drawings and clash detection envelope subclassifications are improved in PDS 7.2. Users can automatically define the weld type on either side of a pipeline that continues across drawing sheets or manually assign welds at sheet breaks.

Interference reports now include listing the type of soft envelope. New classifications provide additional information for use in managing clash detection workflows. Formerly generic soft-soft clashes are identified precisely as insulation-maintenance, safety-insulation and so on. Additional sub-classifications are provided for hard-soft clashes.

The 7.2 version is also certified to run on Microsoft Windows XP, which allows users to take advantage of new operating system features.
