Boost Performance with 64-Bit Revit 2009

Autodesk, Inc. announced a restructuring plan to reduce its annual operating expenses. The company anticipates the restructuring will result in annual pre-tax cost savings of approximately $130 million annually starting in fiscal 2010.

As part of its restructuring plan, Autodesk plans to reduce its workforce by approximately 750 employees, representing approximately 10 percent of the company's global workforce. The company also plans to consolidate certain facilities. The actions announced are in addition to the ongoing cost reduction initiatives previously announced, which include a hiring freeze, business travel restrictions, and other reductions in its operating expenses. COADE announced that TechnoCAD, headquartered in Quito, Ecuador, is the company’s new dealer in the region. Founded in 1998, TechnoCAD provides engineering services for plant design, construction, maintenance and inspection in a wide range of industries.


The American Institute of Architects (AIA) semi-annual Consensus Construction Forecast projects an 11 percent decline in design and construction activity in 2009. To revitalize the building sector, which accounts for about one in every ten dollars of the United States GDP, the AIA developed the Rebuild and Renew Plan, which details its recommendations for the allocation of funds in President-elect Obama's economic recovery plan. The AIA is calling on the new administration and Congress to create policies that ensure these monies are spent on the planning, design and construction of energy efficient, sustainable buildings and healthy communities that are advantageous for both the environment and economy. If implemented correctly, the nearly $100 billion plan would create 1.6 million jobs throughout the design and construction industry.

Findings from the UK Architectural CAD User Survey report published this month by Revelation Research show that some CAD software developers are meeting the requirements of UK architects better than others.

The survey measured architectural CAD software users' experience of both the CAD products they used and their associated support services. The research was conducted in November 2008 and included responses from 925 architects based in the UK, representing a statistically valid sample for the survey.

In terms of product functionality, Autodesk’s Revit and Graphisoft’s ArchiCAD had the most satisfied users. Revit scored slightly higher on collaboration while ArchiCAD was rated higher on its ability to evaluate design alternatives easily and overall ease of use.

The Open Design Alliance (ODA) announces its first ODA World Conference to be located in Leiden, The Netherlands, April 27 – 29, 2009. The ODA World Conference Planning Committee also announces a call for industry-related papers and presentations to be delivered at the conference.
