Gilbane Building Company Implements Timberline's Software As a Company-Wide Construction Estimating Platform
BEAVERTON, Ore., April 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Gilbane Building Company, Providence, Rhode Island, has completed an implementation of Timberline's estimating software as a company-wide platform for its network of 22 offices nationwide. With its software implementation, Gilbane reflects a trend among companies who are adopting applications that enable unhindered data transfer within their businesses and with their business partners.
Gilbane, which completed more than $3 billion in construction in 2002, is the 6th largest construction management firm in the United States. The 130-year-old, privately held construction company is involved in all major public and private construction markets: industrial, corporate, healthcare, pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, educational, airports, federal, correctional, convention centers and sports.
Gilbane's use of information technology to speed and streamline the construction process for its clients has further distinguished it in recent years. The company is a three-time recipient of InformationWeek magazine's Top 500, as the number one user of information technology systems in the Construction & Engineering category.
"Future technologies and information sharing are very big with us," said Peter Adamowicz, district chief estimator based in Gilbane's Glastonbury, Conn., office. "We have more than 70 estimators and it's a tremendous resource if we all can use one estimating platform. It becomes very easy to share estimating resources from one office to another."
Smooth information transfer allows Gilbane's project teams to focus on a host of client-oriented services, rather than focusing on integration issues. Such services include value engineering, detailed conceptual estimating, project cost analyses, and project comparisons through archived historical cost data.
By providing its clients with such value-added options up front, Gilbane is better able to help identify potential cost savings early in the project lifecycle.
"Our clients are very sophisticated in construction methods and techniques, as well as costs, and they expect that level of detail," Adamowicz said.
In addition, the company also sought a system that would enable customized databases and reporting options. "It's a challenge in satisfying the estimating needs of 22 offices," Adamowicz said. "But Timberline's flexibility in customization helps us do just that."
Timberline's estimating software is part of Timberline(R) Office, a collection of software that emphasizes improved data integration within businesses and with their business partners.
