Best Software Announces Timberline Partnership With On Center Software to Enhance Interface Between Takeoff and Estimating

BEAVERTON, Ore., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Best Software Company announced today that Timberline has partnered with On Center Software, a Texas-based software developer to the construction industry, to provide an interface between Timberline's award-winning estimating program and On Center's leading on-screen takeoff solution. Best Software acquired Timberline Software Corporation in Sept. 2003 to expand its foothold in the construction and real estate segments.

Timberline will market the interface, called ePlan Takeoff, with the latest release of Timberline(R) Office, a suite of integrated financial and operations software for construction and real estate professionals.

The agreement also gives Best Software exclusive rights to market and sell licenses of the Timberline version of On Center's On-Screen Takeoff(R) program through its global distribution network, thus extending On Center's reach to a broader base of end-users. "This is a win-win, not just for our two companies, but for thousands of Timberline Office users who will save time and increase the accuracy of their estimates using this new interface," said Curtis Peltz, Timberline president and general manager.

With ePlan Takeoff, estimators and other construction professionals using Timberline Office version 8.3 will be able to perform takeoffs from electronic building plans using On Center's On Screen Takeoff program, and automatically transfer those calculations to Timberline's estimating program. "Timberline users now have the ability to perform takeoffs in real time from their PCs and then seamlessly use those quantities to build more accurate estimates," said Leonard Buzz, On Center CEO.

The new interface addresses demand among Timberline customers seeking easier access to electronic plans in addition to traditional takeoff methods. "Five years ago, less than 20 percent of our customers had on-screen takeoff capabilities," said Steve Watt, Timberline director and VP of estimating products. "Today, that number is about 70 percent, so it makes sense for us to provide a way for users to perform dimensional takeoffs from electronic plans with our estimating software."

In fact, several Timberline customers are already On Center users, and welcome the interface between the two programs. "We've been lobbying for this to happen," said Ted Merrill, a project manager with Turner Construction, the nation's leading general builder with 45 offices across the country and construction volume of $6.2 billion in 2002. "We'll be able to go back and forth between the takeoff and the estimate to review our projects and printed sets of construction documents." Turner plans to roll out the latest release of Timberline Office, with the ePlan Takeoff interface, to nearly 300 employees this fall.

In addition to creating estimates in real time between the two software programs, users also will be able to build dimensional takeoffs from electronic plans and store those calculations until an estimate is required.

Terms of the agreement also include on-going support for On Screen Takeoff by On Center Software.
