Autodesk, Inc. announced that The Stubbins Associates, an architectural firm specializing in the hospitality, education, science, civic, healthcare, and commercial industries, has standardized on Autodesk Revit Building software for their latest major project. Revit Building -- Autodesk's solution built specifically for building information modeling (BIM) -- mirrors the real world of architecture by letting architects and designers work on buildings holistically, rather than in terms of separate floor plans, sections and elevations. This enabled the Stubbins team to create a 21-story, 390,000-square-foot, full-service Marriott hotel whose main facade was inspired by the sails of the

Welcome to 3D Base Camp!

Brad Schell (our illustrious founder and fearless leader) has - for some time now - envisioned a time and place for SketchUp users to come together and learn, share ideas, get to know each other, and just have some fun. As part of the SketchUp 'family', many of you have contributed to our gallery, user stories, demos, tradeshow booths and website, not to mention the evolution of SketchUp. We'd like this to be the live opportunity to do all of that and more.

Ascend to a Higher Aptitude!

We're calling this event '3D Base Camp' because it will help you reach the pinnacle of proficiency in SketchUp. This is the time and space to gather up tools, fuel, resources, for the rest of the trip up your personal 3D mountain. And '3D Base Camp' feels right, too, because we believe in challenging ourselves -- every day and in every way.

We've put together some dynamite sessions that merge applications with specialists, allow maximization of SketchUp skills (it's up to you how far you take them), and offer up a fully open platform for idea exploration. We're also pretty excited that Stewart Brand, Modern Renaissance Man, award winning author and publisher, is sketching up something cool as our Keynote Speaker. We've also blended in a couple of great activities that highlight our hometown of Boulder, Colorado, and the people that are the very heart of @Last Software.

In today’s competitive business environment, architecture firm leaders must successfully develop leadership from within to help them achieve excellence in their practices, win new commissions, and provide outstanding service to their clients. Success in these areas is often due to the ability of skilled leadership teams to build a clear and focused vision, maintain a passion for exploring new ideas, continually adapt to new conditions, and hold a deep conviction to meet long-term goals.

No longer is the charismatic “bigger than life” leader the answer for many of our best firms. In this conference, the AIA Practice Management Knowledge Community and the
AIA New York Chapter have invited firm leaders who have committed themselves to building great organizations that will last beyond their tenure and that will thrive in a changing world. Architects from some of our country’s most successful firms will share their knowledge of team leadership, mentoring, business development, and management. They will lead seminars, facilitate workshops, and join us in roundtable discussions that will help define a new model for leadership and a fresh approach for firms that are on the road to “getting to great.”
