Intergraph has introduced the newest module to its SmartPlant Enterprise engineering solutions suite to enable engineering, procurement and construction companies (EPCs) to more easily manage plant design project subcontractors.

The SmartPlant Materials Subcontractor Management module was developed jointly with CH2M HILL, a global full service consulting, design, construction, and operations firm. The module is an available extension of Intergraph's SmartPlant Materials management solution that creates a completely Web-based common collaboration platform for all companies involved in EPC project delivery.

Intergraph announced its SmartPlant Enterprise electrical solution with Basic (B) and Detailed (D) modules to address industry needs for flexibility in the electrical design process, offering functionality for safety, quality and productivity for electrical power distribution network engineering and design projects.

Burt Hill, an international architecture and engineering firm, announced that members of its staff have written the book “10M: Toward an Integrated Approach to Design.” Anton Germishuizen, AIA, Senior Vice President and member of the Board of Directors and J. Rossi, Chief Marketing Officer of Burt Hill, led a team responsible for developing and applying 10 critical, interconnected drivers, or metrics, that turn the often subjective architectural and engineering process into an analytical, measurable one, without making design prescriptive. In two essays in the book, Germishuizen and Rossi connect design and marketing and give examples of how the metrics
contribute to the interconnection of design and engineering resulting in the best outcome.

Intergraph has launched a new solution for distribution integrity management programs (DIMP) to help gas distribution companies maintain safe, secure infrastructure and meet new U.S. government requirements.

Gas distribution companies must develop and implement formal DIMP plans by August 2011 as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). Intergraph's seamless framework of industry-tailored field automation, infrastructure management and Web portal technologies supported by in-depth consulting expertise enables gas distribution companies to monitor, maintain and report on distribution integrity as required under the new PHMSA regulations.

Interface management involves the control of all the technical interfaces between the various stakeholders involved in the project these including the owner, PMC, EPCs, package suppliers and design institutes etc. and agreeing the roles, responsibilities and timing of delivery of necessary information between the stakeholders.  The objective of interface management is to avoid interfaces impacting project cost, schedule or quality. Experience from major development projects shows that problems most often arise at the interface between organizations and their scopes of responsibility.

The event is called the COINS 3 Peaks Challenge 2010. The COINS 3 Peaks Challenge is the classic mountain challenge that will take place September 18-19,2010. The Challenge is a great team building and fundraising event exclusively for the construction and service industries. Your team of 4 hikers and 2 drivers has 24 hours to hike 3 mountains in 3 states: Whiteface Mountain in NY, Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire, and Mount Mansfield in Vermont.

The COINS 3 Peaks Challenge benefits The COINS Foundation, a public non-profit that seeks to work in partnership with communities and other organizations to build homes, schools, and hospitals for the world'd most excluded populations in Haiti, Africa, the UK, and the US. The COINS Foundation recieves sponsorship for all of its costs, which means 100% of all donations and money raised goes directly to the charitable projects. The 2010 CADWorx University, a plant-design and engineering-creation conference, will be held September 27-29 in Houston, Texas. In the past two years this event has evolved into a unique forum designed to impart best-in-industry knowledge to its attendees, and increased value to the companies they represent. What makes CADWorx University unique is its focus—focus on the attendee and a drive to make sure that you receive valuable information that can be used on the first day back to work. Although the CADWorx Plant Design Suite has thousands of users in the market place, over the last
25 years we have found that true success is measured in more than just numbers, but by satisfied users that are enabled to consistently deliver real productivity benefits to the firms they work for.

Projects in existing plants are part of daily business but often present engineering challenges such as accounting for as-built data and merging modified/add design data back in the plant engineering environment for operations. In this session we will discuss how SmartPlant Instrumentation as-built can help you with this challenge. The second topic of this session will address instrument specification sheets and how intelligent spec sheets in SPI can help drive quality and consistency.

Time: 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM CDT
Date: October 12, 2010
Place: USA

Instruments are the most common and trusted method of risk mitigation. Per the hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies, design practices, and company standards, Safety Integrity Level (SIL) factors (1-4) are determined, which defines the protection layers and control system methods for the process. Intergraph SmartPlant Instrumentation can then, based on the SIL, help to design and manage the safety systems to ensure a safe state of the operating plant. SmartPlant Instrumentation can help to group the instruments to make sure the required type and number of back-up/layers is in place to achieve
the required protection. In this webinar, you will learn how SmartPlant Instrumentation can help design safety into your plant and create a consistent and high quality set of associated documentation.
