Bentley Systems Names Dr. Artur Krawczyk 2014 Educator of the Year

Dr. Krawczyk Is a Lecturer at AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland

EXTON, Pa., U.S.A. – 06 October 2014  Bentley Systems, Incorporated, the leading company dedicated to providing comprehensive software solutions for sustaining infrastructure, today announced that it has named Artur Krawczyk, Ph.D., lecturer at AGH University of Science and Technology, Kraków, Poland, as the 2014 Educator of the Year. The award recognizes a member of the academic community who has an outstanding record of achievement and is committed to inspiring students to pursue careers in the infrastructure professions.

George Church, senior vice president, Bentley User Advantage, said,“Dr. Krawczyk’s passion for inspiring students to advance their understanding of engineering software dates back to his first teaching assignment. Upon receiving his Ph.D. from AGH, he proposed a new course on fundamental software skills for the mining industry that subsequently was incorporated into the university’s Mining Surveying curriculum. The course, which included software programming and administration using MicroStation Basic, was enthusiastically received and greatly appreciated by the students, who flocked to it. Over the next five years, they would fill nine lecture groups on software fundamentals for mining annually. He followed this success with additional curriculum innovations, including courses on MicroStation for Mining Surveying, Computer Graphics, Spatial Information Systems for Environmental Engineers, and Spatial Information Systems for Mining Engineers.

“In 2006, Dr. Krawczyk created a Student Association of Computer Graphics at AGH. This new association was designed to provide highly motivated students with the opportunity to take part in extracurricular training in 3D software modeling. Inspired by this advanced learning, students in the association would enter 18 projects over the next eight years in the Bentley Student Design Competition – with four winning the prestigious Scott Lofgren Student Design Award and an additional three receiving honorable mentions.

“We thank Dr. Krawczyk for his dedication to inspiring students in the engineering disciplines and congratulate him on his new recognition as Educator of the Year!”

Commenting on being named Educator of the Year, Dr. Krawczyk said, “It is an honor and a privilege to receive this acknowledgement from Bentley Systems. We share a common mission of sustaining the engineering professions by encouraging young people to persevere in their technology studies, no matter how difficult their courses might be. I always remind my students that the rewards of an engineering career – particularly the ability to help the world community resolve some of its most difficult challenges – make the extra effort required to prepare for these professions worthwhile.

“I thank Bentley for bestowing this honor on me, and also for developing software innovations that not only make the task of sustaining infrastructure easier, but also help spark the imagination of young people considering engineering careers.”
