In President Obama’s State of the Union address, he specifically talked about rebuilding the U.S. He outlined a “Fix-it-First” program to put people to work on “urgent repairs,” such as failing infrastructure like bridges, roads and other critical infrastructure. He also said on the topic of climate change, “If Congress won’t act soon to protect future generations, I will.” Mike DeLacey, President of Microdesk, a consulting firm, shared these thoughts after the inauguration speech: “In his inauguration speech, President Obama publicly recognized the importance of investing in our nation’s infrastructure as a means of stabilizing and growing our economy, and hopefully will reiterate this in his upcoming State of the Union address. Funding and legislation, such as last year’s MAP-21 bill, are a critical start. But beyond that, we need to find ways to proactively promote and support sustainable solutions today that will see us well beyond the next four years. This means supporting the use of processes and technologies that help improve the way we design, construct, operate and maintain our roads, highways and transportation infrastructure, as well as rewarding organizations who can implement solutions that truly move us forward.”
