Newforma director of Product Marketing, David Wagner, talked about their new release, Newforma Project Cloud, the company’s web-based project management platform, and new mobile apps, Capture, Tasks and Project Email as well as their updated Plans app.
1) What’s new in Newforma Project Cloud? Newforma Project Cloud now has added field management capabilities to help contractors ensure that building and infrastructure construction conforms to the original design intent. In addition to a completely new interface that makes Newforma Project Cloud even easier to use, we’ve added new quality control tools that enable users to identify, fix and verify on-site activities. We also added new spatial index tools that allow an administrator to define project spaces, which is essential to easily locate quality control tasks such as work-to-complete and non-compliance items. 2) Does the Spatial Index have location based capability within buildings? Yes. The new Spatial Index tools in Newforma Project Cloud have been developed to help users easily locate quality control tasks such as work-to-complete and non-compliance items. For each defined space, in the Spatial Index, like a room, the user can define key attributes like number, name, level and space type. 3) What is the subscription/price point? Newforma Project Cloud is priced as a subscription license fee based on the size of the project. Newforma Project Center is priced as an enterprise wide annual subscription license fee based on the size of the customer. Both include access to Newforma Mobile Apps. 4) Explain what each of the new mobile apps does. We’ve released these new apps – Capture, Tasks and Project Email – and made significant enhancements to our existing Plans app. The new Capture app provides one place for capturing project data in the field. The new Tasks app provides an interactive dashboard for assigning, reviewing and updating project tasks. And in the new version of the Plans app users can create and locate field notes, punch list items, and action items on relevant drawings. These are all designed to help with field management and all three work with both our on-premise enterprise software, Newforma Project Center, and our web-based solution, Newforma Project Cloud. Additionally, Newforma Project Center integrates with our other new app, Newforma Project Email, which provides instant access to emails that team members have filed in the Project Email activity center in Newforma Project Center. 5) Does the Mobile Capture app notate field data so they can be easily found by those on the receiving end? Yes. Finding items captured in the field using Newforma Capture is very easy. Firstly, when you open the Capture app, it automatically opens the camera on the mobile device so that the user can take a photo of the item. The user can then use the markup tool to further clarify what’s being captured. Then, the Capture app allows the user to notate field items based on their type, including subject, description, space and location in space. Additionally, in the case of an action item for example, the user can notate its level of priority, discipline, who its been assigned to, and a due date for completion. Finally, the Capture app also creates a thumbnail image, that acts as like a “treasure map,” to show where the item is placed on the drawing. 4) Does the Tasks app’s interactive capability allow others on the job to see updates etc. – how is that accomplished? Yes, it does, but it’s important to note that this is only in accordance with the security permissions defined in the system hosting the project, either Newforma Project Center or Newforma Project Cloud. All updates are pushed from the field (via the Newforma Mobile App) up to the hosting solution, either Newforma Project Cloud or Newforma Project Center. Updated information is automatically downloaded to the mobile apps of the other project team members to ensure that they always have access to the latest, most accurate project information. 5) How is Project Email different than standard email? Standard email apps provide access to an individual’s email. The Newforma Project Email app provides project team members access to all emails filed with particular projects. Additionally, it provides tools for searching information in the project email including the attachments. 6) How does it search and what for? Newforma Project Email searches the to, from, cc, and subject fields as well as the body of the email and any attachments stored in the Newforma Project Center Project Email activity center. 7) Is the Plans app available in disconnected mode as well as connected? Yes. In fact, every Newforma Mobile App is available in disconnected and connected modes. If a user’s device does not have an Internet connection, the app continues to function in a disconnected mode. For example, on a job site where there is no connection, a user can still use the Capture app to capture items in the field. Once the user’s device re-establishes a connection all updated items are automatically uploaded.
