In keeping with the theme of this year’s event, “Design with Purpose,” Mayor of Chicago Rahm Emanuel opened the festivities at the AIA 2014 Convention in Chicago this past week with great enthusiasm for architectural innovation in Chicago. Emanuel also once served as White House Chief of Staff to President Obama, as well as served three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives for Chicago’s 5th District. He previously served as a key member of the Clinton administration from 1993 to 1998, rising to serve as Senior Advisor to the President for Policy and Strategy.

This acquisition strengthens Deltek’s market leadership position in the A&E industry and extends its reach into the largest segment of the architecture and engineering industry within North America – firms with fewer than 250 employees.

AECCafe, in the form of Editor, Susan Smith, will be at the AIA National Convention in Chicago June 26-27th.
What that means is that our focus remains on architecture, engineering and construction from a CAD and Building Information Modeling perspective. As I ready for this conference, I would like to hear from more CAD and BIM companies to have an awareness of your booth presence and events you might be hosting.
The areas we cover are quite vast: building information modeling, visualization, CAD, 3D printing, document management, project management, laser scanning, conceptual design, integrated project delivery, and specifications.
If you wish to set up a meeting during the convention, please contact me at susan.smith@ibsystems.com. Look forward to seeing many of you there!
Thanks,
Susan

A couple of weeks ago I spoke with Akos Pfemeter of Graphisoft about the new Archicad 18 release. The product Archicad is 30 years old this year, which Pfemeter points out means that “BIM” is 30 years old now, since Graphisoft was the first company to create building information modeling.
