The Bentley Year In Infrastructure 2015 Conference and 2015 Be Inspired Awards in London this Coming Week #YII2015

Upcoming this week in London at the Hilton Metropole is The Bentley Year in Infrastructure 2015 Conference, showcasing the latest product announcements from Bentley Systems, as well as the 2015 Be Inspired Awards, awarded for excellence in various areas of Architecture, Engineering and Construction Excellence. Winners are chosen from a group of finalists, who have submitted their projects for consideration.

After jurors have deliberated during the week to come up with the winners in each category, the Awards Dinner is the crowning event of the conference. Below are three project summaries of finalist entries from the following AEC categories: Innovation in Construction and Innovation in Structures.

Installation Company of the First Construction Engineering Limited Company of China Construction Third Engineering Bureau (South China) – Zhiyue Youcheng Square – (Foshan, Guangdong Province, China)

Located in Foshan Qiandenghu Recreation Center, Guangdong, China, Zhiyue Youcheng Square is part of a major renovation project in this historic part of the city. The CNY 60 million project consists of three distinct buildings – Passemble Hotel, with 22 floors and 200 guest rooms; Food Forum Shitongitian Plaza, with 17 floors; and Reach 100, with 19 floors for commercial and residential use. The engineers completed mechanical and electrical design, procurement, and construction using an integrated BIM approach. ProjectWise provided a collaborative design platform that enabled project data synchronization through all phases. AECOsim Building Designer enabled collision checks that eliminated hundreds of impact points. More than CNY 2 million was saved through work efficiency and error reduction, with Bentley software reducing design errors by 90 percent and increasing design depth by 50 percent.

Located in the fastest growing business region of São Paulo, Brazil, the WTorre Morumbi is the largest corporate building in Brazil.

Medabil Sistemas Construtivos S.A. – WTorre Morumbi – (São Paulo, Brazil)

Located in the fastest growing business region of São Paulo, Brazil, the WTorre Morumbi is the largest corporate building in Brazil. With a modern and innovative design, it has two towers of 38 floors each, with a central span of 35 meters in length interconnected through five suspended walkways. The structure of the WTorre Morumbi building consists of two structural systems, the first being responsible for the horizontal stability and the second used to ensure the absorption of gravitational load. Medabil Sistemas Construtivos was contracted to develop the structural design of the WTorre Morumbi. Using RAM software, the entire project was developed and using a BIM methodology and then shared by IFC files. The team exported the RAM model for the structural calculation of the building and imported it into SDS/2. A 65 percent reduction in design time on the basic and detailed design and a 50 percent reduction in project costs increased project ROI.

The prototypical project Skyhouse Apartments is a 23-story, 320-unit complex with street-level retail space.

Stanley D. Lindsey and Associates, Ltd. – SkyHouse Apartments – (Denver, Colorado; Atlanta, Georgia; Orlando and Tampa, Florida; Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; Austin, Houston, and Dallas, Texas; United States)

Novare Group develops USD 45 to 75 million apartment complexes in cities throughout the United States, including projects completed, in design, or under construction in 17 locations. The prototypical project is a 23-story, 320-unit complex with street-level retail space. Stanley D. Lindsey and Associates modifies the design for each location based on local building ordinances, geology, seismicity, and wind forces. The ability to reuse the 3D model for multiple locations helps to roll out ongoing projects within tight deadlines. RAM Structural System and RAM Concept allow changes to be made quickly and provide updated designs to the developer, architect, and contractor. RAM ensures a safe, efficient, and functional design. The cumulative savings in design, development, and construction costs result in more affordable accommodations for the end user.
