The construction industry is driven by documentation in the form of submittals, contracts, record sets, and RFIs. While this is still a priority, the design teams are adopting BIM, and there needs to be a way to consolidate all the information coming from various stakeholders on the project. Autodesk’s BIM 360 Docs web service was just made available as a commercial product. Designed for the entire construction project team, BIM 360 Docs ensures that the entire team works from the correct version of documents and plans. Addressing the entire AEC lifecycle, BIM 360 Docs includes tools for publishing, managing, reviewing, editing and approving all project plans, models and documents from the beginning stages of the project all the way through owner occupancy. The cloud-based service is available on all devices or desktop, so that it is a complete collaborative tool. Unlike typical document management platforms available on the market, which are generally in the form of document management platforms, AEC drawing viewers or model viewers, and project management apps, BIM 360 Docs goes beyond the focus on specific people or goals to putting the project at the center of the technology instead. The single cloud-based repository holds all project documents, models and plans for the entire project team.
BIM 360 Docs makes BIM more relevant and accessible to all project stakeholders, and all project users want to know about design and fabrication details. The design of the building and layout of the site drive cost, scheduling, code approval, quality planning, safety planning, etc. An integrated system that can view documents and models with access and version control is best. Another way BIM 360 Docs is different is that it supports both 2D and 3D processes and in so doing, utilizes the efficiencies and analytic capabilities of BIM to more construction workflows, while keeping a centralized system of record for all the construction documentation. The traditional way of managing construction documents makes the construction project owners responsible for aggregating information, extracting insights and routing information to the customer, as well as controlling versions. Many areas of communication have broken down and cost companies time and money on projects with this process. Commercial Availability and Pricing Users will be granted access to a limited time trail of BIM 360 Docs that includes all available features. It will be offered in both free and paid pricing tiers, with additive functionality across the tiers. Pricing for the paid tier is $249 per month, per project.
