On Monday, Autodesk announced the availability of AutoCAD 2017. The latest release makes the promise of being “faster and smarter across connected desktop and mobile solutions, and makes it easier to collaborate with colleagues, create personalized design experiences, and stay up-to-date with the newest features and updates.” The AutoCAD 360 Pro mobile app is subscription based and allows you take AutoCAD with you.
Key features for the 2017 release include: IMPORT PDFs – Users have requested this feature above all others. PDFs have been added to the supported ‘Import File’ formats. Now you can import geometry, TrueType text and raster images from a PDF file or underlay into the current drawing as AutoCAD objects. You no longer have to leave AutoCAD to import PDFs. AUTODESK DESKTOP APP – According to company materials, product updates and learning content are seamlessly delivered to help you get the most out of new features with the new Autodesk Desktop App, a companion application that replaces Autodesk Application Manager. You’ll get the latest security patches and updates for all 2015, 2016, and 2017 versions of Microsoft Windows-based Autodesk products without disrupting your workflow. This is where we begin to see the growing emphasis on subscription as the app is subscription-aware, offering subscription-only updates and learning content for products under subscription. SMART CENTERLINES/CENTER MARKS – Centerlines and centermarks are now “smart” so that editing and creating them is faster and more intuitive. When you move associated objects, the centerlines and center marks update accordingly. The performance and clarity of 2D and 3D graphics as well as graphics stability continue to improve with the AutoCAD 2017 release. For a full list of features, visit New Features of AutoCAD 2017. As is always the case, the release of a new AutoCAD version is accompanies by the release of the new AutoCAD LT version, AutoCAD LT 2017. This product offers smart 2D drafting tools to speed up documentation work. You also get with the subscription to AutoCAD LT 2017, the AutoCAD 360 Mobile App, which allows you to view, create and edit drawings on your phone or tablet, add text, markup and make changes to drawings in real time, and share designs and revisions directly from your mobile device. In addition, get direct one-on-one global phone support, support via chat, faster response times, and enhanced support benefits, which are included with the AutoCAD LT subscription.
