In a recent interview with Dr. Biplap Sarkar, CEO of Vectorworks, we discussed the latest features of Vectorworks 2017, which was released September 14th.
While making significant enhancements in areas such as import and export, rendering, and immersive environments, Vectorworks 2017 takes a departure from the typical by adding new apps for railing and fencing, irrigation tools (one of the top five features), Resource Manager search engine, and drainage capability added to flat roof design, BIM supporting IFC4 VCF, among other important features. “We now import Revit files, and are probably the first to introduce ODA for DWG libraries,” said Sarkar. Content from different manufacturers can now also be added through selection from the Resource Manager. Other architectural features include the ability to move slabs separately from walls or to be open or partially covered by walls. “There is no change to the interface,” said Sarkar. “The shell is what people see, the core is the center. We have separated them so that we can change the core without disrupting the shell.” A look at the features of Vectorworks 2017:
Keeping current with Vectorworks software allows you to maximize your efficiency and take advantage of cutting-edge technology. “Our subscription program, Vectorworks Service Select, is the most cost-effective way to ensure that you will always have access to the most current version of our software,” said Sarkar. “We have updated our upgrade policy to reflect the continued growth of our subscription program and the advancements of our software. As of September 14, 2016, Vectorworks, Inc. discontinued the current upgrade options that were available for licenses four or more versions behind the current version. Users who are designing with one of these older versions will only be able to transition to the current version by purchasing a new license. For example, when Vectorworks 2017 is released this fall, users who are designing with Vectorworks 2013 will only be able to transition to the current version by purchasing a new license. This policy change applies across all product lines. Vectorworks Service Select members will continue to receive access to the latest version of their software as part of their subscription benefits.
