Dell All-in-One Desktop Computer Offers Touch Screen and 10 Speakers

April 13th, 2017 by Susan Smith

The “new in January” Dell All-in-One desktop computer XPS 27 Windows 10 PC which sports a 27” screen with touch screen is one of the popular “All-in-One” computers that are offered by various hardware vendors today. Because of the computer’s ten speakers and great sound system, it may be extremely popular with those who want to hold a concert in their home.

Dell All-in-One XPS 27 Desktop Computer

For those who want a touch screen in a larger computer, this might be the one for you. Touch screen computers have been around for awhile in the notebook and laptop varieties, namely Dell Inspiron 11 3000 2-in-1 and some Lenovo touch screens. These are tablet computer hybrids that are laptops that can be folded into a tablet. It proves that touch has its place in the UI for some users – outside the basic tablet.

Many who have experienced this technology – a laptop going beyond the tablet, notice the absence of the touch capability. Like one user said, “I’m a multiple screen freak. I want the touch screen as an extension of my creativity and consciousness.”

So this user wants the touch screen on the desktop, which the XPS 27 is there to serve up.

For others who can’t reach their desktop screen, they may not want a touch screen at all, or just find it a superfluous feature. There are plenty of computers that don’t have touch screens at all for just those users.

Or those who are accustomed to working on tower PCs will probably not have any use for the touch screen. Their focus will be for intensive and analytical work.

An All-in-One (AIO) can be used for a video conferencing system as long as it has a large widescreen. You can also watch movies from 10 feet away with a 27 or 34-inch AIO desktop computer.

You can choose between a UHD 4K touchscreen display or a non-touch panel of the same resolution (3,840×2,160-pixel-resolution) but 50 bits brighter with Dell’s thin-bezel Infinity Edge. The 27” 4K touch display and the graphics card sport good gaming performance.

The basic high end computer is outfitted with the 32GB RAM, a 1TB solid-state drive and a Radeon R9 M485X GPU, will cost upward of $3,400. The product is 4GN AMD Radeon R9 M470X graphics card. It has an LCD widescreen, Intell core 17-6700, processor speed of 3.4 GHz, storage of 512. The lower end computer has16 GB RAM.

This model has ten speakers: two tweeters and four full-range drivers that are positioned under the screen, but there are also two down-firing and two passive radiators (the latter for better bass).

There are also dynamic amplifiers that ensure 50 watts per channel, and Dell says the XPS 27 can reach volumes of over 90dB, with a frequency range of 70Hz to 20KHz.

The placement of the audio components have relegated the XPS 27’s webcam to the bottom of the display, which is not as desirable. There are four USB 3.0 ports plus two Thunderbolt 3/USB-C, one DisplayPort, an HDMI and an Ethernet jack. An SD card slot is located on the left side of the display.

The stand with rubber bottom for the XPS 27’s touchscreen lets you lay it horizontally as well as tilt it up to 60 degrees back and 5 degrees forward. The stand for the non-touch display can only tilt backward 30 degrees.

While many reviews praise the 10 discrete speakers that sport full bodied audio and the 4K touch display, some reviewers say the model the rear I/O ports are difficult to access, and the unit is very heavy at 34.6 pounds. If a user isn’t prone to moving the unit around much, this shouldn’t be a big problem. The screen is said to be prone to show fingerprints.

The touch screen is optional on the XPS 27, so it can satisfy both kinds of users. For $2,000, you can get one without a touchscreen, and for $2,500 you can get one with.

Pricing for the XPS 27 starts at $1,499 with VR capability it goes up to $2,300. It has excellent color reproduction with UHD 4K display and a great audio system.
