Pete Mann, SVP of Corporate Development for Deltek, spoke with AECCafe Voice this week about Deltek’s acquisition of ComputerEase, a company that is known as a standard in construction accounting, project management, and field management software for contractors. Deltek is a global provider of software and solutions for project based businesses. The announcement was made on Monday, August 12th. According to company materials, over 6,000 contractors in North America use ComputerEase’s integrated construction solutions, offered on-premise or in the cloud, for streamlining all aspects of their businesses. Founded in 1983, ComputerEase software includes job costing, construction accounting, project management, field management and other add-ons, including fleet and asset management, as well as certified payroll – which address the concerns specific to construction industry businesses. ComputerEase is valued for its scalable approach to construction. For decades, Deltek has offered award-winning solutions to A&E firms of all sizes. With the combination of Deltek + ComputerEase, the company secures its place in the construction industry, adding to its powerful portfolio of solutions for architects, engineers and construction firms. The end result will be rather an end-to-end approach to AEC firms across the board who are looking to coordinate their workflows.
What kinds of integrated construction solutions does ComputerEase provide? ComputerEase provides cutting edge, integrated construction accounting and project management software. We stay on the forefront of product development by adding easy-to-use new features that solve the everyday problems that come with the construction industry. These include but aren’t limited to purchasing and inventory, equipment management, service management, payroll services, and more. How will these tools integrate with Deltek’s portfolio of solutions for Architecture, Engineering and Construction? Many of Deltek customers continue to evolve their business models – and some of those firms are increasing the percentage of Design Build work they perform, necessitating the need for dedicated construction software capabilities. With the addition of ComputerEase, Deltek now has the best in class capabilities for Design and Build requirements, as well as service and fleet management, to name a few. What was lacking in Deltek’s suite of products before the acquisition? The software requirements of a construction firm are very broad, including the ability to manage extremely complex construction payroll rules, which we had not yet tackled in our commercial ERP offerings. How does ComputerEase interface with BIM solutions which have become a primary resource for construction? ComputerEase can handle many of the workflows revolving around communication of drawings and specifications, including Submittals. The addition of Deltek’s PIM solutions will expand the capabilities for Deltek + ComputerEase’s construction customers to interact with BIM models. What are the features of ComputerEase that Deltek sought to have in their suite of solutions? ComputerEase has invested in its software capabilities dedicated to construction firms for the last 35 years. The list of features required for a construction firm would take up more space than allotted here, but suffice it to say that there is not much that ComputerEase has not seen and incorporated into its software. It is one of the most complete construction packages on the market. Will ComputerEase maintain its offices or will they move to the Deltek offices in Virginia? We plan to retain the ComputerEase office in Ohio. What staffing changes will there be in ComputerEase as a result of the acquisition? All ComputerEase employees have been offered positions with Deltek. When is the acquisition expected to be completed? Acquisition has been completed as of August 19, 2019. __________________________________________________________________ “We are very excited to welcome ComputerEase to Deltek,” said Mike Corkery, President and CEO at Deltek. “ComputerEase's knowledge and strength in the construction industry is the perfect complement to Deltek's A&E industry solutions.
