Marie-Pierre Aulas, La Fondation Dassault Systèmes' General Manager, spoke with AECCafé Voice about the La Foundation Dassault Systèmes’ steps to preserve our planet and encourage sustainable solutions through innovative technology. La Fondation Dassault Systèmes, which announced a new project to support the preservation of the world’s oceans. The announcement coincides with World Oceans Day, celebrated annually on June 8.
The project has two goals: improve the experience of learning science for children and students while helping them to be better prepared for new jobs involving sustainability, and contribute to finding solutions for sustainable development. Applications are open for researchers, students and communities to submit their ideas for preserving ocean habitats.
What companies besides La Foundation Dassault Systèmes are also taking steps to preserve the planet and encourage sustainable solutions?
Regarding our project, some organizations are already collaborating with la Fondation, such as the Ifremer (the French institute that undertakes research and expert assessments to advance knowledge on the oceans and their resources, monitor the marine environment and foster the sustainable development of maritime activities), and French Public organizations for education, such as the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

The close relationship between design and construction is one that requires an integrated system, usually involving detailed plans and specifications. Carnegie Mellon recognizes construction planning is a process of identifying activities and resources required to make the design a physical reality. Construction, therefore, is the realization of a design put forth by architects and engineers. The various operational tasks that have to be performed in design and construction must be tracked throughout the project lifecycle.
The project lifecycle doesn’t end just at the completion of construction and occupation of the building; it extends many years beyond that. Since there are also many specialized and custom features to buildings, they can take many years to complete. Factors such as site, weather, building codes and other issues must be taken into consideration. It is difficult to foresee the needs of the building over its continued lifecycle. Design plans are changing throughout the lifecycle according to technological changes and the demands of the structure.
