Tim McDonough, general manager of Industries, for Unity3D spoke with AECCafe Voice about the PiXYZ plug in that can be now used to host AEC projects in Unity3D.
PiXYZ Plugin and PiXYZ Studio for Unity allows you to import IFC BIM files into Unity. The 2018.3 version of the PiXYZ products are now available and can import the geometry from Revit and all BIM 360 data.
In an interview with Jon Fingland, general manager of collaboration solutions at Trimble, we talked about the need for digitization and transformation in the construction industry.
Trimble’s answer to the challenges and transition to digitization is Constructible, a purpose-driven approach to building construction – a process that coordinates and optimizes the entire design, build, operate lifecycle. Constructible links the work of each construction stage and helps to implement that work within businesses.
President of Tech-Clarity, Inc. and COFES conference co-chair and moderator, Jim Brown spoke about the COFES Conference, Congress of on the Future of Engineering, which is to be held in Silicon Valley this year April 7-April 10. While COFES has traditionally been held over a weekend, this year it will take place on business days.
Digital twin technology has been talked about a great deal over the past few years, and is being worked on in various technology segments. At one time it was the province of manufacturing and now it is part of the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and data analytics. It is also being explored by numerous industries. The IDC recently noted that by the year 2020, 30% of global 2000 companies will be implementing data from digital twins to gain greater productivity.

Welcome to the second installation of our series of AECCafe Industry Predictions for 2019. This week we have a number of submissions focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning implementations as primary technologies featured for 2019. The trend has already begun but definitely will be shaping the AEC industry in the year to come and beyond. As Tibor Szolnoki of GRAPHISOFT says, “Augmented Reality becomes common practice: in collaborative design processes, in job-site applications, and in consumer applications (like home-design solutions).”
It’s exciting to predict what may be the technologies of the new year. Many of you have a finger on the pulse of what is up and coming and can share valuable insights with our readers.
Before the holidays I sent out a call for industry predictions for this year. So far, we have received a number of responses. This may mean that I need to extend this into a multiple part blog. Please get your submissions to me asap so they can be included.
While technology purchases take place all year round for AEC organizations and users, listed here are some ideas for products you might want to put on your wish list.
