Lofts in Lisbon, Portugal by Manuel Graça Dias + Egas José Vieira

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

Article source: Manuel Graça Dias + Egas José Vieira

Two lofts were adapted from an old typography space, located on the ground floor of a residential building of the early twentieth century, in Lisbon. The building plan, almost a “square” shape (350,00 square meter), distributes its liveable space in a “U” shape, around the entrance lobby, the staircase and a small interior court yard.

Xiang’he  Garden City – Park of the floating gardens

Ambitions

At this moment a masterplan for Xiang’he Garden City is developed. A new garden city of approximately 700 hectares will arise close to the future 7th ring of Beijing. Within the first phase of the development a park is projected, closely related to the water basins that are a result of clay reclamation by the existing brick factories. A steep slope along the north side of the factories will be a result of these activities that will affect the park design, since on the north side of the basins housing development is projected.

“Achieve a contemporary house with vastu compliance” was the brief for this renovation project.

The existing structure was a 30 year old typical Bangalore house with thick load bearing walls. Most of the outer walls were very close to the plot boundary cutting out a large amount of light. The neighbor’s house too was hugging the boundary wall in certain areas which cut off even more light.
