St. Hans “Haugen” Performance Center in Oslo, Norway by ctrl+n Architect

Saturday, July 2nd, 2011

Article source: ctrl+n

Norway is well known for its long summer days, the almost euphoric festival atmosphere in its city parks, with barbeques burning day and night to the sound of live music floating through the trees on a summers breeze. we suddenly fall from our winter slumber into our shorts and t-shirts and into our parks, where we celebrate the beautiful but all too short norwegian summer. however, we are here to pose two questions. firstly, how can we maintain such use throughout the rest of the year? secondly, how can we offer some much needed rehersal and performance space back to the city?

A library for the future

Reading – for the sake of knowledge or enjoyment, or to explore the world of the human imagination – is one of those experiences that gives you a sense of emotional and spiritual richness quite different from economic or monetary well-being. In this sense, the act of creating a space that surrounds you with books is undoubtedly linked to the creation of a new, enriched sense of public values.

Norwich Cathedral Hostry in Norwich, UK by Hopkins Architects

Saturday, July 2nd, 2011

Article source: Hopkins Architects

A new visitor and education facility sensitively re-establishes the medieval west entrance to the Cathedral’s cloister. Built on the site of the original pilgrims’ guest hall, The Hostry completes the new accommodation at Norwich Cathedral, complementing The Refectory, and ‘re-animating’ the medieval cloister as the heart of the Cathedral precinct. The Hostry has a unique brief in that, in addition to exhibition spaces and an education room, the building also houses the Cathedral’s Song School and choir rehearsal spaces. It also provides a large community room, which can bring together those who live and work in The Cathedral Close, as well as offering conference facilities for external groups.

Article source: Akinari Tanaka+POI+Nawakenji-M+Lapin

This is the project that the client returned to the birthplace after the retirement and rebuilt an old house. He requested sunny one-storied house with good ventilation. But there was a problem that an erstwhile quiet green residential area was changed into densely built-up area, and moreover neighbor’s concrete block wall surrounded his flagpole shape site. And there was a sense of being oppressed.
