MariSol’s Showcase Estate also won Gold Nugget Grand Awards for Kitchen Design and Bath Design. In addition, in a close vote, MariSol was runner up for the Grand Award for Residential Project of the Year, instead receiving an Award of Merit in that category as well as an Award of Merit for both Outdoor and Indoor Living Spaces (Awards List Available by request).
The Pacific Coast Builders Conference awards are the oldest and most prestigious design awards in the Nation, recognizing those who improve the Nation’s communities through exceptional concepts in design, planning and development. The Gold Nugget Awards honor creative achievements in architectural design and land use planning for residential, commercial and industrial projects. Entries come from 14 Western states, and international entries are accepted for all countries. Gold Nugget winners share one common denominator: excellence and innovation in addressing complex design/build issues. The competition is sponsored and presented by PCBC®. Co-sponsors include Builder Magazine and major building product manufacturers, financial institutions and builders, architects and associates in the real estate field. The Judges Statement on the MariSol Malibu Beach House: “Incorporating years of study of coastal botanical habitat, the developer sought to place these homes into an indigenous botanical garden. Respecting landforms while creating strong architectural spaces that blur the lines between inside and outside make this a perfect home for the gentle Southern California climate. The judges were impressed with the strong artful interior architecture and creation of elegant casual lifestyle. The homes were designed with multigenerational private suites to allow for the return of friends and family. The homes attained a “Build It Green” certification by utilizing recycled materials and large shade overhangs.” Applications for the Gold Nugget Awards for 2011 included entries in 50 categories and over 400 applicants for attached and detached housing designs, including affordable, custom and re-use and renovation work. Also honored are diverse commercial, recreational and specialty buildings, as well as a variety of land planning achievements. Pacific Coast Builders Conference Judge Tom Doucette of Doucette Communities in Tucson, Arizona, said this year’s competition was exceptionally diverse, with winners coming from throughout the U.S. and internationally. “The custom homes offered impeccable ‘green credentials’ that provides a spark for homebuilders,” added Doucette, “These homes set an example for residential design in the coming years.” MariSol, Malibu’s impeccable, “green,” oceanfront, bluff top planned community distinguished itself with innovation, its building and landscape design, its commitment to restoring the land with native flora and fauna, its sustainable building practices, its Build it Green certification and its design vision to build for multi-generation family uses.
