We experience the Ocean mainly in two ways, as an endless surface and in an immersed perspective as depth. This plain/profound duality of the Ocean motivates the building’s spatial and organisational concept. Continuous surfaces twist from vertical to horizontal orientation and define all significant interior spaces. The vertical cones induce the visitor to immerse into the Thematic Exhibition. They evolve into horizontal levels that cover the foyer and become a flexible stage for the „Best Practice Area“.  Night View
ZA11 Pavilion in Cluj, Romania Designed using Rhino & GrasshopperSaturday, July 9th, 2011Article source: Dimitrie Stefanescu, Patrick Bedarf, Bogdan Hambasan The project started out as an ambitious student-powered endeavor to design and fabricate at a 1:1 scale the flagship pavilion for the ZA11 Speaking Architecture event in Cluj, Romania. While at the same time integrating into its historically-charged context, the design boasts a strong representational power which was much needed in order to fulfill its main goal: attracting passers-by to the event. The object tries to make legible the new ontology which is slowly defined by computational architecture and is a showcase for the processes empowered by it. In this area of accidented topography, where large stones are surrounded by Araucaria trees, a small valley was chosen, protected from the winds and close to the forest. This is where the natural walking paths cross: the site where people who arrive at the plot of land go to, access to the paths leading to the heart of the forest and to the top of the hill where one sees an impressive view. The 85,000 square meter (915,000 sf) proposal is a new model of development for Yerevan and Armenia that supports a resilient, high-value spatial fabric, dense with overlapping natural and urban phenomenon. The project began from site selection with the client. After visiting several locations, the inverted L-shaped lot in the residential area of Kawanishi city, Hyogo grabbed the family’s heart with its scenic view far over Satsuki Mountain from the east side of the lot, which is one level higher than the surrounding townscape. This gateway envisions a living link between the city’s boundary with mainland China that embraces both pedestrians and vehicles. The landmark structure gracefully spans the Shenzhen river increasing accessibility by organizing modes of traffic. Serving as a controlled boundary point, the sweeping raised form softens the appearance of necessary functions including ground level truck parking.  River
