Eternit is a material which was actually used for roof shingles and cladding panels for houses. With Camouflage kitchen, destilat now draws the bow from the façade of a house to the façade of a kitchen, stresses the similar demands of both regarding material and optics, and recalls the original purpose of the material.

The robust and durable, yet elegant surface of the kitchen is distinguished by its smooth and pleasant touch. Being a natural material, Eternit is of course completely recyclable. Bearing in mind the local production and the fact that Eternit is an Austrian invention,  it is furthermore a nice example of  regional value added.

Camouflage Kitchen

For Camouflage many individual elements are assembled into a homogeneous entity similar to a typical façade made of Eternit panels, so that, despite the light weight material, the front resembles a solid, monolithic boulder.

All necessary horizontal partitions for roll-out shelves, drawers and handles are designed in a slightly inclined  angle in order to underline this massive impression. Although this seems only a minimal intervention from the creative point of view, it  transforms ordinary seams into a distinctive design feature with ornamental effects. All seams become dynamic and the horizontal partitions are masked or “camouflaged”, hence the name of the kitchen.

Of course Camouflage is available in a wide range of colours. Each kitchen is unique and custom made, designed according to the individual demands. Camouflage is currently on display in the destilat showroom, Lehargasse 10, 1060 Vienna.

destilat describes its mission as follows:

“There is no such thing as past, present or future – what counts is what you make out of it. Design is a process without beginning or end, a vast area of curiosity, a depository of ideas. This creative chaos is the space we inhabit, roaming somewhere between the old and the new. We are searching for  innovations that appear familiar, for provocations that touch our inner self, for functional gravity that makes us laugh. We are working with emotions and all our senses. The customer’s requirements, technical hard facts, aesthetical aspects – step by step everything is integrated into the design process. The product is the essence of this process. Concentrated, reduced, distilled. We call it by our name.”
