Two identical wings are captured at the moment of splitting apart. Floating out of the darkness, the suspended skins form an S-shaped route into an artificial cave, where two projectors cast shadows that draw the viewer towards the enclosure within. The factory is used by the factory staff and the users who like to repair and remodel car by oneself. In the suburb of Nigata City, many suburbian architectures appear. The majority is classified in ‘the commercial establishment with strong color and fanciful form’ and ‘the monotonous offices and warehouses which have no interest of design and is finished with grey or beige color’. We intended to design a new suburbian architecture that reflects the character of the suburb but was neither involved in the fancifulness competition nor was different from the monotonous office. Located on the northern side of the existing medical campus at Bastanchury Road and Harbor Boulevard, site preparation has been underway since December 2010, and the new tower officially broke ground during a private ceremony on September 25, 2011. This competition forms part of the process of urban remodelling being conducted throughout the Lyon Confluence area with the aim of leaving behind its industrial past.
