Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

Article source: Light – Shadow

TWINS is an installation by Lawrence Lek and Onur Ozkaya. Two identical wings are captured at the moment of splitting apart. Floating out of the darkness, the suspended skins form an S-shaped route into an artificial cave, where two projectors cast shadows that draw the viewer towards the enclosure within.

Mederu – Auto Repair Shop in Nigata, Japan by Daigo Ishii + Future-scape Architects

Article source: Mederu – Auto Repair Shop

It locates in the suburb of Nigata City as one of the big cities in Japan. The factory is used by the factory staff and the users who like to repair and remodel car by oneself. In the suburb of Nigata City, many suburbian architectures appear. The majority is classified in ‘the commercial establishment with strong color and fanciful form’ and ‘the monotonous offices and warehouses which have no interest of design and is finished with grey or beige color’. We intended to design a new suburbian architecture that reflects the character of the suburb but was neither involved in the fancifulness competition nor was different from the monotonous office.

Jewelry Mayrhofer in Linz, Austria by X Architekten

The most interesting trends in the design of shops are concerned with the coherence of the products and their environment – thus the space in which they are presented. Furthermore do we understand shop design as a part of corporate identity, as an instrument of communication for contents and aims. The concept bases on the intention to define space as a sensually perceptive phenomenon and connect it closely to the jewellers manifacts.

Revitalization of the Chernobyl zone in Ukraine by Arina Ageeva

Saturday, November 5th, 2011

Article source: Arina Ageeva

Introduction
The majority of people have an extremely negative idea about the exclusion zone around Chernobyl nuclear power plant, though quite a big part of this territory does not pose any radioactive hazard. Paradoxically, the absence of human activity created favorable conditions for animals and plants. For example, two Przewalski’s horses (which are in the red list of endangered species), after they had been places in the zone, bred actively and now they are 40. At the moment the territory is practically uninhabited, with the exception of few scientists, people who refused to leave their homes (their average age is around 60), and tourists.
