Hansha Reflection House in Nagoya, Japan by Studio Sklim

Thursday, June 21st, 2012

Article source: Studio Sklim

Situated at the entrance of Misakimizube Koen, one of the picturesque parks fronting a lake and flanked by Sakura trees, the house was conceived to be an object with the environment. The programmatic zones of Public, Service and Private spatially organised the house into 3 distinct zones with further punctuation of the main massing with the Landscape element; providing spaces for the courtyard and roof deck. This base form was further chiseled with structure, daylight/ventilation and viewpoint concerns.

Financial And Commercial Department Of Voestalpine Stahl Gmbh in Linz, Austria by Dietmar Feichtinger Architectes

Thursday, June 21st, 2012

Article source: Dietmar Feichtinger Architectes

The Voest steelworks in Linz has erected its new, representative sales and finances head office around an extensive open area. The urban planning concept and the design of the buildings on the square were carried out by Austria’s most important architect living abroad, following a competition between several top-rank designers.

Linz does not owe its reputation as a location of industry solely to “the Voest”, as this business is known in Upper Austria. But the perception of this city, both from inside and outside, does appear to be particularly closely linked with this steel company, founded under the name Hermann Göring Werke, which today is a global player. Fortunately there is in “the Voest” an awareness of the responsibility that this brings with it. Serious efforts are made − not only in terms of improving the quality of the air in Linz. And so the visiting card that the voestalpine Stahl GmbH (the company’s full title) presents to us in the form of its new sales and finances head office also stands for this city shaped by industry. And as such it functions excellently: the dynamically curved volume, cut at an angle in front, with the filigree, adjustable golden façade makes an impact on even the most inattentive motorist driving by.

Groupe Scolaire Lamoricière in Paris XIIe, France by Archi5

Thursday, June 21st, 2012

Article source: Archi5

The planning and design of this refurbishment and extension project is the result of a very careful analysis of the context. The school faced several problems caused by the overlapping uses of space by several programmes, leading to confusion in traffic flow and hindered visibility of the nursery school and its access from Carnot Boulevard.

Thursday, June 21st, 2012

Article source: 0E1 Arquitetos

The design for this music school is based upon the creation of two hermetic chambers to house rehearsals inside a large space in a historic building located in Nova Prata, Brasil. The configuration of such boxes turns the residual space into two ambients that, even though are continuous, configure different spaces for different activities.

In 2010, the Silk Road Project, a nonprofit arts and educational  organization dedicated to innovation, learning through  multicultural and interdisciplinary exchange, relocated to  Boston. With this transition came the opportunity to create a  custom made space including both open and private offices,  meeting areas, and an intimate performance space. In honor  of the organization’s collaborative motivations, the multi-layered wall is a physical expression of creativity that separates  the performance space from the workplace, yet links the two  through its transparency.

Article source: Agence Bohuon Bertic Architectes

The point is to create an efficient tool as for the building’s use as well as for the surrounding area, friendly, enjoyable, serene and identifiable.
The establishment site is characterized by horizontality; this vast dominant plateau immerses the user in the scenery. The project interprets and synthesizes the characteristics of the place and programmatic datum. Resulting two fundamental elements: the base and the volume-signal.
