Ecletica Music Center in Nova Prata, Brazil by 0E1 Arquitetos

Thursday, June 21st, 2012

Article source: 0E1 Arquitetos

The design for this music school is based upon the creation of two hermetic chambers to house rehearsals inside a large space in a historic building located in Nova Prata, Brasil. The configuration of such boxes turns the residual space into two ambients that, even though are continuous, configure different spaces for different activities.

In 2010, the Silk Road Project, a nonprofit arts and educational  organization dedicated to innovation, learning through  multicultural and interdisciplinary exchange, relocated to  Boston. With this transition came the opportunity to create a  custom made space including both open and private offices,  meeting areas, and an intimate performance space. In honor  of the organization’s collaborative motivations, the multi-layered wall is a physical expression of creativity that separates  the performance space from the workplace, yet links the two  through its transparency.

The point is to create an efficient tool as for the building’s use as well as for the surrounding area, friendly, enjoyable, serene and identifiable.
The establishment site is characterized by horizontality; this vast dominant plateau immerses the user in the scenery. The project interprets and synthesizes the characteristics of the place and programmatic datum. Resulting two fundamental elements: the base and the volume-signal.

The rhythm led by the double alignment of trees contributes to the extent of the site. Housings located along the street are inspired by this initial step. It is a kind of respect towards the scenery which reminds massive urban boulevards.
The project begins by building the main limits of the site. The both sides of the central place are connected to the parc and the environment.

Atelier de Jardim AS in Vale do Ave, Portugal by J. M. Carvalho Araújo, Arquitectura e Design S.A.

A couple of doctors gather friends and colleagues to meetings and thematic workshops. Without adequate space in the current house, they requested a small multifunctional building for an adjacent parcel.

On the edge of town, in the slope of the valley, lie the two terrains at different heights. In one terrain, overlooking the other, there is a detached house in the center. The other has a beautiful informal garden, with large trees and a lake that anticipates the feeling of the river lower down. It was essential to maintain this view over the garden.

The intervention uses part of the existing buildings, primarily structural elements and some facades. We used this preexistence to provoke an initial impetus for the project, creating greater diversity.

We had particular interest in the idea of evolution from a school type to an identity school, based on the context of urban integration, perception of school as a symbolic element, in its outstanding features and a general understanding of the school principal,  that had clear ideas about the operation and image of the school. This development process generated a building with its own code, like DNA, something individual and unique, identity or personality.

90 Degrees Architecture, City Walls Parasites in Milan, Italy by Gianluca Milesi Architecture

Wednesday, June 20th, 2012

Article source: Gianluca Milesi Architecture

90 Degrees architecture is a research on the urban environment of the city of Milan.

The idea informing this projects is to work on parts of the city uncompleted and never solved, without any urban or architectural quality. Our specific interest is to act on the never finished and never designed blind facades of buildings results of a failed development of the urban fabric and of a lack of design.

Our interest is focused on these “Walls” that, in the best of the circumstances, are spaced dedicated to commercial posters or low quality decorations and just in very few cases solved, usually through the use of green climbing natural patterns.

  • Software used: The projects are redacted using mostly 3dstudio max with the eventual contribution of autocad, with different renderings engines, in particular we have used mental ray.

Tower Zeltweg in Austria by Zechner & Zechner ZT GmbH

Wednesday, June 20th, 2012

Article source: Zechner & Zechner ZT GmbH

The condition of the structure and technology of the existing building, as well as the introduction of the Eurofighter by the Austrian defence forces, necessitated the construction of a new air traffic control tower and a service building for fire brigade, winter service and rescue. The decision to combine the tower and sheds led to the creation of a ‘standing’ part and ‘reclining’ part of the building. The two elements enter into a dialogue with each other, the ‘foot’, consisting of fire brigade area and base, confronts the 45m tower. The epitrochoid ground plan is a result of the main lines of sight to the runway.
