In 2006, the Municipality of Budaörs city announced a national competition for the design of its new elementary school with 24 classrooms. Though our proposal won third prize, the contract eventually was given to our office. The competition demanded an extremely elaborate program on a narrow, triangular plot. Besides the 24 classrooms and the necessary field rooms, a fully fitted hot kitchen for the capacity of 500 people, the attached restaurant, a separable gymnasium including 2 basketball fields and changing rooms were to be allocated.

Station Hyllie in Malmö by Metro Arkitekter

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

Article source: Metro Arkitekter

Hyllie is the first station you reach when travelling by train from Copenhagen’s Kastrup airport and is therefore Malmö’s gateway to Copenhagen. This is no traditional station building – we have been working with other elements instead. The large round roof (diameter 45 m) – lit from below using uplights – hovers like a UFO above the station entrance. The roof is perforated by 52 round lantern lights which allow daylight to penetrate right down to the platforms, thereby eliminating any sense of an underground station.
