House N in Zagreb, Croatia by 3LHD

Friday, October 12th, 2012

Article source: 3LHD

Pantovčak, one of Zagreb’s most prestigious streets, which rests below the gaze of Sljeme, has been lined with freestanding family houses for decades. With its sculpted gardens and comfortable spaces between buildings, it exudes all of the admirable qualities of a pleasantly livable urban residential drive.

House N is situated in a quieter secondary neighborhood on this street, perched in the western hills and boasting a delightful panoramic view of the forest and the city.

Clinton Hill Apartment in Brooklyn by Holler Architecture

Friday, October 12th, 2012

Article source: Holler Architecture

It is a typical situation: first-time buyers of a small Brooklyn apartment in need of a gut renovation spend almost all their savings on the down payment and hence need to do an extremely economical renovation.
In addition to the limited budget the design challenge was to increase the living space by creating an open plan and improving functionality of the spaces, with built-in furniture and adequate storage. Careful attention was given to the use of sustainable design strategies and materials in order to minimize environmental impact.

Gallery House in Markham, Canada by Reza Aliabadi [Rzlbd]

Friday, October 12th, 2012

Article source: Reza Aliabadi [Rzlbd]

The Gallery House is a contemporary residential structure that adapts an institutional/commercial typology in that all of the spaces have been aligned and arranged along a galleria. One can imagine that all of the served and servant areas of the house have been plugged in to this empty spine. They then have been stretched out to the north and south where they gain exposures, views and natural light.

New city rail station at the Cologne Zoo by Rübsamen + Partner Architects BDA Engineers
After Rübsamen + Partner’s design, the rail station Zoo/Flora was realized and finally resolved the previously unsatisfactory situation. Although the zoo is the second largest visitor attraction (right after the cathedral), its old stop near the zoo and the botanical garden was located above ground, but beyond outdated and not even accessible.

KABC’s winning scheme for an innovative office and research campus in Hangzhou, China, was selected over six international firms invited to submit designs. Our vision for the facility in the Hai Chuang Yuan Community is based upon creating a continuous multi-layered pedestrian experience. It is intended to strengthen and benefit the community, which will inhabit and move through the site. Everyday activities including parking underground, moving throughout the buildings, and working in the offices are connected to the natural environment. Article source: Architecture Republic

A Redbrick terrace in Irish town is folded in on itself to open a space for living.

On passing though the brick wall which is common to all houses on the street, one is generally met with small rooms lined in carpet and wallpaper. In this case one finds that very wall folded right back into the interior and garden beyond.

HDJ 65 in Baja California, Mexico by T38 Studio

Wednesday, October 10th, 2012

Article source: T38 Studio

On a sloping site with a privileged view of the city, we designed a house for a young family. The main design criteria was that every interior space would have a relation with exterior space. To accomplish that, our approach was to integrate outdoor space at every level of the house, be it a garden or terraces. Other spaces we would open up to the exterior by extensive use of glass positioned to take advantage of the landscape surrounding the site.

As part of a limited competition for the City of Sydney, HASSELL undertook the challenge to rejuvenate Perry Park in the inner-Sydney suburb of Alexandria.

Taking the themes of sport and ecology, the HASSELL response provides for a range of passive and active recreational activities within a park and wetland setting. Our goal was to create a destination for both individuals and groups; a place where sport and ecology mix seamlessly, support and complement one another in a balanced environment.

Gunoot Eco-Resort in Muscat, Oman by SSH International

Wednesday, October 10th, 2012

Article source: SSH International

In the remote South of Oman there is a fishing village Shuwaimia on a 30KM virgin beach. Our client is a regional developer interested in developing 1 million square meters of precious land where the mountains meet the Indian Ocean. Various master plans submitted resulted in high density over development and the remoteness of the location made it not feasible financially. We proposed a different approach.
