Armadillo is located in Kamakura, Japan. With the sea to one side and the other 3 surrounded by mountains, this town’s topography provides ideal protection from enemy. This feature led Kamakura to become the political centre of Japan in the 12th century. This site is located in a valley with a very narrow approach road ,so the carpenter was required to fabricate off-site at their workshop. The clients- a couple,her father,two dogs and a cat – bought the site with its old house four years ago. The existing house was built in the 1930s and enlarged 35years ago(this existing house do not satisfy the present earthquake-resistant standards).
Amazing is the only real way to describe it, there are a lot of creative design features integrated to create one striking modern bathroom.
Help! …… The bathroom was cramped dark and was long passed its ‘use by’ date. Natural lighting is virtually nonexistent. A small inadequate window was the only light source. The space needs its inadequacies to be disguised and the layout carefully reconsidered.
The London Library, founded by Thomas Carlyle in 1841, is the world’s largest independent lending library, with over 1,000,000 books and 8,000 members. Since its inception the Library has evolved into a complex amalgam of spaces that originate from a building sited on the north west corner of St James Square. The building has a discrete formal façade that provides a foil for a more aggregative interior. Over the years additional buildings have been annexed to house the ever-growing needs of the Library and its users, including a book stack built in 1922, and an extension to the north built in 1934; the Anstruther Wing housing rare books, was built at the rear of the 1920s book stack in 1995.
The municipality of Denkendorf lies in an idyllic position on the south-facing slopes of the Filder plateau. Ippolito Fleitz Group was commissioned to design a detached house for design-loving clients above the almost 900-year-old historic town centre with its famous monastery. It posed an interesting challenge for the studio to measure up to the clients’ aesthetic vision and desire for sustainable architecture, while at the same time complying with local building regulations.
In 2007, UK charity A Partner In Education (APIE), as part of its mission to boost education in Africa, committed to building a new school campus in the Kigali neighborhood of Kabeza to replace dilapidated existing facilities. MASS was brought on board to select the new site, design the new educational facility, as well as assist in building the organizational structure to support the educational programs for the Kabeza neighborhood. The school opened in July of 2011 with H.E. President Paul Kagame inaugurating the project.

The old chapel of the Virgin of Meritxell, patron saint of the Principality of Andorra, was gutted by fire during celebrations in 1972. The Taller de Arquitectura was commissioned to rebuild the sanctuary, but steered away from the kind of archaeological approach that would have been limited to replacing the fallen stones in their original positions.

Hudson Hill Condominium designed by FXFOWLE (2009) is located just west of Columbus Circle in the Clinton Hill District in New York City. The infill building’s Trespa-paneled façade, spanning 125 feet, is designed to actuate the street wall and bring character to the residential units. Designed to appear more opaque from the east, the faceted façade harmonizes with the adjacent rows of townhouses and small apartment buildings. The façade opens to the west so many of the two and three bedroom apartments capture views of a park at the corner of Tenth Avenue and the Hudson River beyond.
The San Francisco Javier School is an institution related to the Compañía de Jesus, which founded this school around 1850, in the center of the emerging city of Puerto Montt. It was in fact the first church and parish, and part of its facilities are now a National Monument. The development and densification of the center, and the transfer of its inhabitants to residential areas in new neighborhoods on the outskirts of the city, forced the relocation of the school. This new building is located in the heart of high Pelluhue, a new residential district located east of the city.
Typically, as convention centers evolve their footprints expand. In Miami Beach—an island where every acre is precious and the only “periphery” is ocean—the convention center has claimed an entire precinct for asphalt. Since its initial construction in the 1950’s, the Miami Beach Convention Center has expanded twice, each time claiming more open space from the city and looming closer to its neighbors.
This project is part of a 22-acre urban renewal plan, connecting an Asian city with its major sea port. Its goal is to revitalize a depressed area by catalyzing growth powered by a new soccer stadium and mixed-use development. The design team carefully integrated the stadium’s site and program to respond to its urban context. An existing multi-modal transit station became a critical anchor in the northwest corner.
