The aim was to build a spacious, private residence in the eastern Uckermark in rural Brandenburg from timber construction. Small farm buildings sparsely appear in the open landscape of primarily agricultural land. For this project, we took up the theme of the lone homestead in vast space.
This is a trueWellington home .Spectacular views, but facing the morning sun, with a slope to challenge any engineer. Situated on the eastern flank of Mt Victoria, near the city, with magnificent views over Evans Bay, Shelly Bay, and the Tararua mountain ranges to the north.
We have all played the game “Tetris” at least once in our lives. We were mesmerized by the magic of geometry and rewarded by our efficiency. For rzlbd Tetris is not just a game of block arrangement and fast performance, but it is a quest of effective design. If a designer of space was as structured as Tetris blocks, there would be virtually zero wasted space within a building.
Walking into this apartment in the heart of Gothenburg is penetrating a very complex and whimsical brain: that of designer Torsten Ottesjö. Borne out of the client’s desire to optimize space, Ottesjö together with Lars Isestig has transformed this apartment into an intricate, multi-leveled nest, comprised of two stairways, a bedroom, a bathroom with shower, a fully-equipped kitchen, an office, a closet, a living room guest bedroom and dining area—all within a mere 17m2 x 3,6m (183 sq ft x 11,8 ft).
I remember you” is an algorithm based architecture for a residence that was designed in collaboration with Norisada Maeda Atelier and Columbia University based design team Proxy.
For this project two kinds of algorithms have been used: one for the major form and another one for the space. In order to automatically determin those two parameters, a programming trial has been developed and set up.
We were approached by a bachelor who had just bought a penthouse apartment in an upmarket suburb of Sydney’s East. The apartment occupied the entire top floor of a 1940’s building and had great views over Sydney harbour. On the downside it was not very well laid out and the living area was small. The connection of the living area as well as access to the large terrace was also not ideal.
In July of 2003, UTT organized an informal, but very public, presentation and symposium at Caracas’ central university to protest the government plan and begin the process of exploring alternatives. Attended by architects, planners, various other experts, university activists, and barrio leaders, the meeting stunned government planners: speakers from San Agustín were not only vehement in their objections, they were eloquent and well-informed.
This residence is primarily used when the clients’ extended family comes from England for long visits. They come to relax and to reconnect with their family and with nature, away from city crowds and traffic, at a retreat they neither want nor need to leave for a month.
