Library in Singuerlin, Spain by Taller 9s Arquitectes

Wednesday, February 6th, 2013

Article source: Taller 9s Arquitectes

Comprehensive intervention on the top floor of a disused market, to convert it into a new cultural center for the neighbourhood (library, bar and cinema). Transformation of a massive VOLUME, closed and geometrically confused, in an open space, diaphanous and representative. From the obligatory response to site constraints (existing structure, easements for the facilities, low ceiling …) is designed a light building, without closures, without interior walls, simply a part of PUBLIC SPACE conveniently bounded, climatized and equipped.

S11 House in Selangor, Malaysia by ArchiCentre

Wednesday, February 6th, 2013

Article source: ArchiCentre

The S11 house is located in an established older suburb of Petaling Jaya. The existing old house on the site was built in the early 1960’s and had become dilapidated and run-down over the years. A new green tropical house was planned for the site and conceptualized along the lines of a tree. The large tree canopy would cover and shelter the living spaces underneath it. The S11 House was designed to achieve the highest level Platinum rating of Malaysia’s Green Building Index (GBI).
There were five significant existing trees on the site.

Atrium Gerland is located on the south side of Lyon, not far from the Rhone river. The neighborhood is an old industrial site in full change. New office buildings and housing projects are giving a whole new aspect of this part of the city. The land site is located at a crossroad, not far from a subway station and bus stops. The building is entirely occupied by one user : the régional unemployment office (Pole Emploi).

Article source: Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects

The aim of the new campus is to help consolidate the activities at one of Denmark’s largest educational institutions. Covering approximately 27,000 square metres, the complex will bring together the many specialist disciplines under one roof and create links and cohesion across disciplines. The vision is to create a flexible, dynamic, cross-disciplinary study environment where students, lecturers and visitors can meet, knowledge can be shared, and ideas can come into being. A central plaza located in the midst of the four wings of the building will act as a meeting place for approximately 2,000 students who will be spending their days on campus in the future. Above the plaza, the building will open up towards the sky and draw the daylight in, while balconies and terraces will define the atrium beneath the expansive light from above.

The new building—designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects and commissioned by alumna and namesake Darla Moore through a $70 million donation—will provide an environment well suited to answer the challenges of a 21st century business school.

Podčetrtek Traffic Circle in Podčetrtek, Slovenia by ENOTA Architects

Wednesday, February 6th, 2013

Article source: ENOTA Architects

The Podčetrtek Traffic Circle is built on a regional road located between the municipal sports hall with open-air sports grounds on one side and a spa centre with numerous swimming pools and hotels on the other side. It is primarily intended to slow down the traffic in this consequently very busy area as the main accesses to both complexes also connect to the traffic circle. The design of the roundabout’s central island thus references the appearance of both facilities and marks the entrance points to the destinations of the visitors to either of the programme centers.

Alejandra House in Rosario, Argentina by Cekada-Romanos Arquitectos

Wednesday, February 6th, 2013

Article source: Cekada-Romanos Arquitectos

The house is located in a neighborhood not yet fully developed on the outskirts of Rosario. The landscape has the rural character of the Pampas, with fields and orchards along with warehouses and criollo brick kilns (named for the vernacular technique of fabricating clay bricks by hand). The design strategy looks for a compact country house, located on the south side of the lot in order to capture sunlight and to open a large garden area. The shape is the result of a volume subjected to cuts and operations of subtraction.

Novo Mesto Central Market in Slovenia by ENOTA

Wednesday, February 6th, 2013

Article source: ENOTA

The backbone of the new central market is formed by the covered Market Street, which lies on the level of main city square and connects the two spots closest to it on both access streets. The programme of the new central market is thus divided into two floors, one on the level of main square and the other on the level of Florjanov Square on the other side of the city block. The lower floor is partially dug in and features indoor trading and service surfaces, while the upper floor
is intended for the covered market and opens to all sides.
