It sometimes happens that you are asked to produce something you have actually wanted to do for some time. A customer called and asked if we could build a log shack in his field, one that would be large enough to sit and write inside. I loved the idea from the start. Oddly enough, we’ve recently received quite a few questions about the log shack we produced years ago.

In summer 2011, we bathed for the first time in the newly finished sauna of Box. Box is a fishermen’s village located in south-western archipelago of Finland. We are working on the conversion of the former Box village school into a residence, and the first part of the project was to build a sauna into the school’s old storage and toilet building by the seashore.

The São Roque residence was designed based on two constraints: it should take full advantage of the southern view of the lot with an average slope of twenty percent, and be a single-floor dwelling. As a site for the house and the immediate yard, a thirty by thirty meter area was leveled to a height of three meters below the highest point of the lot, based on a calculation of equal amounts of excavation and landfill, using retaining walls reinforced with geo-grids.

Our brief was to refurbish a typical late Victorian mid-terraced house in Hampstead, London. The original property contained some Arts and Crafts influenced decorative aspects, which the owners were keen to retain and highlight, while introducing contemporary interventions to create fresh, modern living spaces.

The new Adamsville Regional Health Center represented a rare investment of public resources in a sparsely developed, sometimes overlooked section of Atlanta. It would have to serve not only as a medical facility, but also as a catalyst for cohesion and future growth in the neighborhood.
