The concept of a house is usually related to the function of shelter/home but it also includes a socio/cultural exercise of a specific community. This house is definitely that place where we act as urban individuals protected from time. It is a polyvalent space that articulates an administrative area with another one that promotes culture and civilization as if through a path where the main program/scheme is spread (secretary, offices, WC, auditorium), just like a beast with thousand feet snug to the slope.

The Kaohsiung Waterfront is being made accessible to the city and its inhabitants due to the departure of navy and industrial functions. The project proposes a strategy for waterfront redevelopment by integrating the natural beauty of the adjacent forested mountain, a low density residential/leisure oriented program and heavy central business district program in balance.

Recycling city.
An obsolete ‘corner’ of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter is recycled, to transform an existing disused building into a public building that profit from the potential of the site to generate urbanity.
Liberating the Gothic bell tower.
With the demolition of part of the existing building it is retrieved the Gothic bell tower of the church of Santa Maria del Pi, freeing it from the current tensions and creating a patio at its feet, future access to the interior of the urban block.
The design of villa Lóla was an especially enjoyable dialogueprocess between client and architect. Various ideas of materials, concepts and techniques where discussed in the process. Inspirations range from Swiss mountains cabins, a sea ranch in Sonoma County in California, and Japanese solutions in spatial efficiency. Furthermore, the framing of views was an important topic of discussion. The natural surroundings of the site and the fjord of Eyjarfjördurwere key factors to address.
Ranger cabins in Vatnajökull National Park both serve as the ranger’s workplace and home, during the period of duty. The cabins are designed in three different sizes as they have the capacity to be inhabited by 1 – 4 employees. Each cabin has its own workshop. In the Vatnajökull National Park (VNP) there will be a total of 10 cabins. The cabins will be placed in the diverse landscape of VNP. The main objectives of the design was to get simple and robust buildings, that would endure the harsh and ever changing weather conditions.
THE SKIPPERS HOUSE IS PART OF A GROUP OF BUILDINGS THAT FORM AN URBAN FAÇADE ON THE SEINE. THE STRATEGIC LOCATION OF THIS “HOUSE” BETWEEN THE SEINE AND QUAI, FANTASTIC VIEWS, BUT VARIOUS CHANGES HAVE REMOVED THIS PERMEABILITY. IN ADDITION IN 1970, A HEIGHTENING OF THE ROOM AWARD WAS MADE BY A “PASTICHE” OF CORRUGATED SHEETS IMITATING CONCRETE FAÇADE. THIS ADDITION MAKES “HEAVY MASS” IN THE VOLUME GROWTH.
The “Ganghofersiedlung” was built under the National Socialists as “Siedlung Göring-Heim” for the members of the “Messerschmidtwerke” into the 1930 years. The strongly rehabilitation needy settlement houses are under ensemble and protection of historical monuments. To leave the existing house still free, the architect built an transparent and structural supporting glasstransit. Just like a bridge between existing house and new bulidling.
A big pipe sticks out from the valley. It totally focuses like a telescope while looking around the opening scenery. Makinohara plateau that lined with a tea plantation and houses along a gentle slope spreads out here. Here is nice and full of nature. I felt that it is necessary for client who has lived long there to find the way of building which could realize charm of this land again.
Following the trend of making alterations to and revamping existing houses, the owners of this home enlisted the expertise of Nico van der Meulen Architects for a modern upgrade. “They liked the current trend in our work towards a mix of steel construction and concrete framing,” explains Nico van der Meulen of Nico van der Meulen Architects.
Harton Quays Park, the £2.3 million waterfront park in South Shields designed by landscape architects Grant Associates for South Tyneside Council, has been awarded a specialist CEEQUAL Client & Design Award for excellence in sustainability.
Scheduled for completion in May 2013, Harton Quays Park will stretch along the River Tyne from South Shields ferry landing to the Customs House and feature curved embankments, an amphitheatre, lawns and colourful planting, a promenade, sheltered gardens and a dramatic pine grove viewing point. A curved ribbon wall made up of 144 precast concrete panels is just one of the key features of the new scheme.
