Sunday, March 10th, 2013

Article source: Jackson Clements Burrows Pty Ltd Architects

Hueis a 5 storey apartment building that sits within a post industrial streetscape inLord Street,Richmond. The site is bound on 3 sides by large 2-4 storey brick warehouse buildings whilst across the road are the rear yards of residential properties. The brief was for a multilevel apartment building that maximised yield on the site. Our design strategy was to imagine the site as a landscaped island within its austere industrial surrounds.

Hotel Castell D’emporda located in Girona, Spain offers a signature restaurant including a large terrace with great views over the surrounding landscape. Concrete designed, at the clients’ request, a roof or covering for this terrace with the possibility to create an enclosed space with full wind and rain protection. One of the design conditions was to create a covering that works in harmony with the historical and listed building. Additionally we wanted to maintain the terrace feeling while be seated under the covering.

ROKU Edogawa in Tokyo, Japan by masatomo_kojima_auds

Sunday, March 10th, 2013

Article source: masatomo_kojima_auds

This project is a unit-based intervention for tenants re-occupying existing buildings. The market for this intervention is mainly young customers visiting a new cafeteria. Certain spatial flexibility was required for other activities such as live concerts and shows. The design of the space had to be adjustable and controllable in order to fit in several project sites and within different existing building conditions. The main focus of the project is to invent the system comprised of basic units forming the whole cafeteria, which could be further developed as several design options by transforming its shape and adjusting to its surroundings.

NIARA in Valladolid, Spain by Amas4arquitectura

Saturday, March 9th, 2013

Article source: Amas4arquitectura

The Niara Sports Club needed a place of its own for its activities. After finding a suitable site in an easily accessible, outlying residential area with a low population density, the Schola Foundation decided to concentrate a large number of its activities into a single building, thus fulfilling a number of complex requirements that included an educational and recreational area for children at two different stages of development- “small” and “big” children; a separate area for parents’ meetings and activities, an area for offices, a residential area, and a block of independent services. All of the above were laid out around the chapel which, together with the sports complex, is the nucleus of the centre.

Toge in Tokyo, Japan by Emmanuelle Moureaux Architecture + Design

Saturday, March 9th, 2013

Article source: Emmanuelle Moureaux Architecture + Design

Toge (Japanese for thorn) is a modular product. Each “thorn” gives the viewer the impression of a sharp and stiff object, but these modules can in fact be freely combined to create a soft, pliable and standalone space. At DESIGNTIDE TOKYO 2011, Emmanuelle arranged five hundred of these Toge modules in 15 different colors to form a wedding dress. This conceptual piece was an exercise in contradictory impressions and sensations – solid and stiff but soft and pliable, menacing yet gentle.

3D Fountain in Zaragoza, Spain by Lumiartecnia Internacional

Friday, March 8th, 2013

Article source: Lumiartecnia Internacional

The first three-dimensional fountain in the world. This state-of-the-art fountain behaves as a three-dimensional water sculpture continually evolving in an attractive and interactive way. This project is a breakthrough in the concept of architectural fountains.

Delicias Station square is defined by consistent lines with the aesthetics of the High Speed train station building, being the water the main protagonist of the proposal. A central space with a reflecting pool offers the possibility of becoming a temporary skating ice rink; water games arising below the pavement energize the space. Bodies of small grass fields rippled by the wind between almond trees and tamaryx bushes define stay spaces near the front of the station.
