An adaptable, integrated, vernacular and low maintenance summer house was requested by the client. The demands of the housing program gave us the opportunity to use simple geometric shapes that responded to them in a successful way. The configuration of the cubes gave us the possibility of having individual spaces but also of having a complete unity by partly touching and overlapping into each other.

The cubes create private, semi-public and public spaces in a complex way through a simple act. This house can serve
for all possible constellations that can come up in a family life. The materials of the cubes present a game of contrasts between the transparent, reflective and opaque.The apertures respond to the surroundings opening towards the views of the lake and protecting against cold northern winds.

All of that gives the building simplicity and at the same time a high complexity between its interior and the surroundings.
Building with a material found on site rediscovers an ancient system which we often forget because of technological advances. Colors and textures in the walls merge with the landscape to bring house and environment together. A close relation with the client and a set of artists that designed some interiors and furniture gave a further step to the customization of the living requirements for the users.

TATIANA BILBAO

Born in Mexico City in 1972. Graduated from Architecture and Urbanism at Universidad Iberoamericana in 1996, in 1998 won
honorable mention for her career and also appreciation for the best thesis of the year. Advisor for Urban Projects at the Urban Housing and Development Department of Mexico City in 1998-99. As advisor for the government, Tatiana was member of the urban council of the city. In 1999 co-founds LCM S.C. In 2004 starts Tatiana Bilbao S.C. with projects in China, Spain, France and Mexico.  Also in 2004 founds MXDF along with architects Derek Dellekamp, Arturo Ortiz and Michel Rojkind. MXDF is an urban research center, attending the production of space, its occupation, its defense and control in Mexico City.

In 2005 becomes design professor at Universidad Iberoamericana. Awarded with the Design Vanguard for one of the top 10 emerging firms of the year in 2007 by Architecture Record. Visiting professor at Andres Bello University in Santiago de Chile in Autumn 2008. Named as Emerging Voice by the Architecture League of NY in 2009. In 2010 two partners joined David Vaner and Catia Bilbao. In December 2010 three projects where acquired by the Centre George Pompidou in Paris, France to be part of their Architectural Permanent Collection. Critics in universities such as Techknik Munich, MIT, UPenn, ETH etc. Spring semester 2013 she is visiting professor at FH Düsseldorf, Germany.

DAVID VANER

Dipl. Ing – Architect born in Erlangen, Germany in 1975. From 1994 to 2000 he worked in Norway and Germany in construction doing specialized work in plaster and woodwork. Graduated in 2004 from Kassel University in Germany.
He worked for several offices such as Buol & Zuend and Christ & Gantenbein. Was part of the ETH Studio investigation team in Basel along with professors Herzog, de Meuron, Meili and Diener. Since 2008 is part of Tatiana Bilbao’s team and in 2010 he became a partner. Spring semester 2013 he is visiting professor at FH Düsseldorf, Germany.

CATIA BILBAO

Born in Mexico City in 1976. BSc in Economics from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México. MSc in Operational Research from the London School of Economics and Political Science, graduated with honors. Has had previous experience working as financial analyst for the banking system, for the housing sector and as a costs and profitability manager for an airline in Mexico. She joined Tatiana Bilbao´s team in 2009 as Finance Director and also since 2010 she became a
partner.
