This is a design for the town hall and seat of government for the new district of Baoan in the city of Shenzhen, located near Hong Kongin main land China.  The region is one of the Chinese government’s ‘special enterprise zones’ and has recently experienced an economic boom, becoming one of the main high-tech centers in China.

Town Hall for regional government

  • Total: 750,000 sq.ft. (70,000 m2)
  • Offices: 48,000 sq.ft. (4,500 m2)
  • Auditorium: 1,200 seats
  • Exhibition Hall: 65,000 sq.ft. (5,600 m2)
  • Hotel with convention facilities: 110,000 sq.ft. (10,200 m2)

The building sits at the focal point the entire city, at the culmination of the main urban axis of boulevards and parks leading from the sea.  The design expresses the civic pride of the region and the new ideals of openness and accountability of government. It is intended to provide a symbol of government for the region.
