House in Peñalolén, Chile by Planmaestro

July 26th, 2014 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Planmaestro & Cristián Schmitt Rivera

This project involved designing a house for a young couple. Formally is a simple volume, consisting of two slabs, floor and ceiling.

The concrete structure was left in sight, untouched, in contrast to the wooden elements, windows, counters, furniture and doors, which give coziness to the house.

The walls generate five sectors in the house, kitchen / dining area, entrance hall, bedroom N°1 and bedroom N°2. Each sector has its respective outer space that complements it.

Around this wall system, a transparent skin is constructed. It is a wooden structure with many vertical elements that give volume and opacity. It is a transparent furniture playing with the other furniture in the house.

The interior spaces are designed as a continuous space, flowing between the walls.

Within each sector, sub-spaces are created by fixed furniture designed by the architects and also by “traditional furniture”.

In the living-room, this sub-space is generated by an “L” shaped table/sofa tied to the concrete structure, in the kitchen by the wooden counter, etc.
