In Peru, Grimshaw has been appointed by Lima Airport Partners (LAP) to design a new second terminal, and a new midfield Air-Traffic Control Tower for the Jorge Chávez International Airport; working alongside CH2MHill and Ramboll, and led by ARCADIS. The project is worth $950 million with the expansion set to be located on 700 hectares of land located west of the current terminal.

Peru is one of South America’s top performing economies, and the Jorge Chávez International Airport expansion will reflect Lima’s role as a major connection hub. The airport is a regular award winner and was recently voted “Best Airport in South America” at the 2014 World Airport Awards. The conceptual design for the expansion is due to be unveiled by mid-2015.

Based on the Black Sea coast, 35km from the city centre, the six-runway development will be delivered in four phases. The first phase aims to serve 90 million passengers per year; this will increase to over 150 million passengers per annum once fully complete.
The architectural design of the Istanbul New Airport will reflect the unique character of the surrounding area and Terminal 1 will be the world’s largest airport terminal under one roof, with a gross floor area close to 1,000,000 sq m.

These projects are a vital step in the growth of both the economies of Istanbul and Lima.”
